Is there a browser extension for removing ads on amazon prime video?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:16 PM PST

I hate ads, I'm the classic AD-blocker, vanced, every-single-extension I can possibly install to avoid, destroy and remove ads. These amazon prime video ads really destroy my flow while binge watching a show, they aren't even useful at targetting me since I live in italy and I don't watch any italian show but instead despise them, specially the ones on prime video. Wondering if there is an extension of some sort for avoiding them or at least an auto-skip. The most annoying thing is the audio volume always a tad above the show so during the night with the minimum dynamic range active it's torture.

Why does IPV6 have 16 bytes in the address?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:05 PM PST

Did they anticipate us someday needing to independently address every molecule on the planet?

Seems like they could have added one or two more bytes to the front and had enough addresses for the next century, and sort of kept backward compatibility with V4 addresses by having them be 0.0.a.b.c.d. I mean... I guess they could still do it with 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:aabb:ccdd, but they don't.

Is this drastic break in addressing why IPV6 has taken so long to catch on or is it something more technical?

How vulnerable is p2p/torrenting/decentralization to attacks such as ddos or privacy?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:23 PM PST

There has been a rise in decentralization technology over the past 5 years. These services are meant to be used by the public, and want to grow as big as social media. But this means that if the public uses these services, everyone on this decentralized network is going to be able to see your ip address.

This makes me wonder, how much of a risk is this? Because, people can definetely perform these attacks, but could they be dangerous in a large scale? or could they be dangerous if it targets a specific individual? (The person that is hosting the content or a person that could be a target by activists).

It's a difficult subject to talk about. I hope you guys are able to offer some of your time discussing this.

(The solution of course is use a vpn, but the average person doesn't know what a vpn is or may not bother trying to learn how to not leak. There are also mitigation options, but the average person won't have that available)

Edit: I shitassed at wording. I tried to fix it. I forgot to add that people can also just do a whois, a whois could reveal information like your city or a city nearby, which could be dangerous when combined with other info. A whois is mostly a problem for individuals I think, I want to get some thoughts on this too.

Fast Charging: How not to kill your smartphone

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 05:39 AM PST

I was on the fence about buying the newly released OnePlus 8T smartphone. As many might have already known from its marketing snippets, the device uses a 65W SuperCharger to charge it's dual batteries to 100% in a fraction of the time of its competition.

I was concerned whether this rapid charging would dramatically cut down on the device's battery longevity. And from which stems my question:

Could you practically use a charger with a lower wattage output (like apple's 5W charger) to charge the phone during long durations of downtime (like in bed or in the office)? Or would it lead to no positive returns for the devices battery longevity?

VDSL packet delay and lower speed porblem

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 12:25 PM PST

I have 100 mbps vdsl internet but the speed I am getting is 20 mbps at times. According to my modems scan there should be no issue with the wires but somehow when I reconnect the wires it gets fixed temporarily. The wiring is done badly, its not a single wire its three wires connected. I tried my best to isolate all the connected parts but I still have to reconnect from time to time. I am leaving some info down here. If you know what is the problem please help me.

    Computer Scanner

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 02:47 PM PST

I've been scanning all my family's old albums on my HP 3 in 1 printer, but after reviewing all the scans, I noticed some are much worse quality than others, despite the original photo being fine quality wise.

It's weird because one page could have 4 pics, 3 of the pics scanned fine, but 1 randomly ends up blurry.

I checked and saw my scanner was set to 200dpi. I don't believe I need 600dpi or 1200dpi as I scanned on various settings and saw no real difference minus the file and image size. Would 300dpi be better to use? And what format should I be saving these images as? JPG? PNG?

And is there a good method to scan all the photos to get them as close to the original quality as possible? As in, is my current method of using 200 or 300 dpi fine? They're all old pics from pre 2000, so its just 4x6 photos taken with old cameras.

Mainly just scanning them to have backed up on a harddrive. Maybe reprint some in the future should it be needed, but at the most I might just have them on a drive and be able to pull up some pics to show multiple people on a TV screen so everyone doesn't have to huddle around the album or a computer screen.

Google Cache - How Does Archiving Work?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 01:34 PM PST

When Google makes a "Cached" version of a website, is the archived copy just a snapshot saved on Google's server, without any connection to the original?

The reason I ask is because I've been having trouble visiting a website today (regardless of the browser I use), where the page would just load endlessly.

I wasn't sure if I was IP banned and that was causing the non-stop loading, but I haven't even logged-in yet and the problem has affected every single page belonging to the website.

When I tried to view a Google Cache of the website, even that gets stuck on the loading screen. Unless the archived page is somehow connected to the original, would I still get blocked even if it's just a Cache I'm viewing?

Is it possible to use a laptop CPU on a desktop motherboard? And how can you determine motherboard compatibility if so?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 12:27 PM PST

Before you say it, this is mainly just a random side project because I'm bored during quarantine, I'm not looking to buy a full out/new PC. Also, I'm generally a noob when it comes to desktop motherboards/compatibility. I was wondering if it would be possible to Frankenstein together a desktop computer for light use. I was partially inspired by a Linus tech tips video I saw a while back of their $69 gaming pc, although this wouldn't be for gaming. My main question is would it be possible to use a laptop CPU on a desktop motherboard?

My old laptop was a Lenovo G510 with an I5. I don't see any writing on the CPU itself but I'm pretty sure it was something like an I5 4200M with integrated Intel HD 4600 graphics. The CPU isn't soldered to the board. If it is possible to put it on a desktop, how would I go about finding a motherboard that is compatible with the CPU?

Audio book apparatus for elderly person with next to zero vision

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 04:25 AM PST

Hi, I apologize in advance if this isn't the correct sub, but didn't fully know what to look for.

I am looking for a device that is made for audio books, that is very simple to use, since it is for a elderly woman who has almost no vision left. She has family nearby who can help her every now and then, like with downloading new books etc, but the handling itself would be great if she could do herself.

If anyone knows anything about these kind of devices I'd appriciate all help since all I find is apps and websites with too hard controls. Or if I'm on the wrong subreddit, any advice on where to turn would be great. All my thanks in advance!
