I need an affordable capture card to record PS4 gameplay. Recommendations?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 03:59 AM PDT

Lists such as this one, which I found with a quick Google search, show cards mostly bottoming out at roughly $100. I was hoping to spend less money than that, if possible.

    Any suggestions? Thanks

Are there any Ring video doorbell alternatives that work on wifi only without requiring an internet connection.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 03:01 AM PDT

I dont expect to be able to see the video from the doorbell when I am not connected to my local wifi, I just want something that works when I am connected to my home wifi without having to send the video over the internet.

    Thanks.

    10 day Apt

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 10:40 PM PDT

I currently work as an IT tech support for 2 4-star hotels. I have a 10 day holiday coming up, what I want to know from the community is what course can I do (within 10-15 days) which could eventually give me an edge (would prefer a new tech that could be practically implemented) As I am not very adamant on sticking to support, I am open to any new interesting topic in tech.

Working Remotely - What exactly can an employer see

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 10:08 PM PDT

Employer has given me the option to work remotely from my personal computer at home. I want to take them up on the offer, but I have been actively looking for a new job and have visited job boards as well as have sensitive information on my desktop.

I really don't know how working remote works. If I check out porn after work will my employer see that? Are they able to snoop through my computer?

    Thanks.

Ethernet Switch Slowing Down My Speed

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 07:03 PM PDT

I live with 2 other roommates and we are all very heavy internet users. We use AT&T Fiber internet and from my knowledge, we have to use the Gateway that was given to us from AT&T for it to function.

Well the Gateway provided only has 4 Ethernet ports on it and a horrible Wi-Fi signal. So our problem is that we all want to be hard-wired for our PC's and Consoles for gaming and streaming purposes. We have 1GB up and 1GB down.

We recenly purchased a Netgear - 8 Port 10/100/1000 G Ethernet Unmanaged Switch and a Linksys MR9000. We hard-wired the Ethernet switch to the Gateway, along with an ethernet that we ran through the attic from the Gateway to our MR9000 and placed in the center of the home. We then ran ethernet cables from each of our rooms to the ethernet switch and were able to hardwire everything. We then connected all of our wireless devices to the linksys to free up the Gateway as much as possible.

Speed tests are now giving our hardwired connections a slower speed on our PC's that are connected to the switch, and I'm able to get a higher result through a Wi-Fi speed test using my phone connected to the Linksys. I'm getting around 400 MB Download and 100 MB Upload. When before we were able to get every bit of the 1GB beforehand.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

    Reliable bluetooth adapter?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 02:21 AM PDT

I just recently got a new PC, and while mouse and keyboard gaming is obviously preferable, I want to play certain games from my bed or couch sometimes... only to be disappointed when I learned my ASUS Z390 ROG Maximus XI HERO motherboard's built in Bluetooth adapter range is absolutely terrible and hardly reaches more then 4-5ft.

I have since purchased a Bluetooth USB dongle like my friend recommended me, specifically this one, (and then had to do some fiddling with the Drivers to disable my internal Bluetooth adapter and make the dongle take priority) but frankly the range isn't much better. And as a lot of the 1-star item reviews mention, the connection to my DualShock 4 controller is strained, if not completely lost sometimes, when objects come between me and my desktop such as if I lean back in my chair and the controller gets obstructed or if I want to play something while under a blanket or two.

How do the PS4 and Xbox One themselves handle seemless completely uninterrupted wireless controller connections from so far across my house, or when obstructed by objects like blankets? And how would I achieve similar bluetooth connections on my PC? I have searched far and wide across forums and youtube videos, and haven't really found any good answers.

    Thanks ♥

    Thoughts on Refurbished Items?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 04:52 PM PDT

I'm thinking about getting a new laptop for my birthday, and found this guy: https://www.newegg.com/grey-msi-modern-018-ps63/p/2WC-000C-00GN1?newReg=y&turntoflow=question&turntoflowid=3910991&turntoxauthtoken=MTkzMDIwMjY6MTYxNTkzNzczNzg3NzpkMTcyYzZiYjczNmJjYWI5NzQ5YmZjNGQ2MTcyZjc1Yw#turntodone

The only thing that worries me is that it's refurbished. I wouldn't mind a few scratches here and there but some of the seller's reviews are also worrying.

Trying to make an e-commerce website that can handle DDOS during specific windows of time. Both Shopify and Big Cartel have failed me. What should I look into going forward?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 10:44 AM PDT

I'm usually on the front end of web design, so I'm looking for a bit of advice

Currently, some drops can have thousands of individuals clicking a single page to purchase limited edition merchandise. I have had Big Cartel fuck up BIG TIME. Shopify is better, but still takes a shit sometimes. This is frustrating for me and for customers.

What should I look into if I want to create a site that can handle that type of traffic? Thanks!

    EDIT:

NOT a DDOS attack! Just really high customer traffic

Searching for a key tracker with very specific functionality.

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 03:04 PM PDT

With all of the key trackers like Tile on the market, I'm hoping one has what I'm looking for. I've done some searching, but so far I haven't found anything.

I'm looking for a tracker that can report the distance between the tag and the phone/device being used to look for it, without using GPS. This is mainly for inside a 20 story building so GPS is useless, and it's for someone who is deaf so the standard 'make a really loud noise' doesn't work.

144 hertz monitor only shows 60 hertz

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 02:31 PM PDT

I have an ASUS VG248, and I know it's a 144 hertz monitor because it said it on the package when I bought it, and I've used 144 hertz on it before. I noticed it to be a little slow on the refresh rate and when I went to check it, only 50, 59, and 60 hertz came up.

    Ethernet not connecting?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 12:44 PM PDT

Im not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask, but. I recently moved into an apartment where wifi is included, and all my devices have connected to the internet with no issues, but my desktop will not connect (I have to use an ethernet cable/wifi adapter with it). I tried three different cables with no luck, it eventually recognized my wifi but it said there was "limited connection"? It worked perfectly fine when I had my own wifi, is there something I'm missing/have to do? if it helps, the extender im using is D-link DAP-1330

    LG-29WK50S-P Adapter Help

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 09:14 AM PDT

Hi, i recently purchased the monitor above it only has HDMI outputs while my work laptop (HP ProBook 640 g2) only has 1 display and 1 vga port. I attempted to use an hdmi to display port adapter into the laptop but am limited to 1920x1080. I was able to get the full resolution when i plugged hdmi to hdmi to my personal computer.

Q: Is there any cable, or adapter that would allow me to use my monitor with my work laptop at the correct scale and resolution? If possible could you recommend one from micro center or best buy due to their proximity to me? Thank you for your help.
