How can an OTP generator like Google Authenticator work without an internet connection? Posted: 09 Feb 2020 03:34 AM PST I have no idea how OTP / 2FA actually works in general, but I'm particularly intrigued about how the app seems to permanently sync with websites. I have my phone in flight mode and just used it to sign in successfully to a service. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Looking for a software/website to create a personal "dashboard" Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:41 AM PST I enjoy tracking my to-do list, my credit card points & balances, goals, etc. but I've always had different programs for each. Individual bank sites for finances, trello for to-do list, Excel for budgeting, etc. Unfortunately it tends to be out-of-sight-out-of-mind for me, so I'll forget to check something and it'll fall by the wayside. Would be great to have a solution that combines all of these into a dashboard I can look at every day. I want to have a single view, or possibly a handful of different views I can flip through easily, with highly configurable workspaces where I can see, rearrange, and edit different fields. Anything that needs data could be linked to tables that can be modified directly, or even to a different data file if need be. As I'm writing this out, it basically sounds like a configurable, visually intuitive combination of data tables, charts, kanbans, a calendar, and possibly integrations with my bank and Google calendar. I tried Airtable but felt it was limited. Tentatively I was thinking of trying Excel, Tableau, or some sort of PDF Maker, but I'm not sure if any of those could get me the result I'm looking for. Here's an example of what I'd like to make: https://imgur.com/a/sbdJiEc [link] [comments] |
LightSpeed box needs to be sourced from a hole in the wall? Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:18 AM PST Hello, I know this may sound like a stupid question to some (or most) of you, but I wasn't here when the internet was set up, and I'm confused about why they needed to drill straight into the wall to set it up. I'm a college student who is renting, and because landlords have been known to take advantage of students quite frequently in my town, I've found it's best to have a general understanding of everything going on around you in your rented space. I've tried to do some research, but I haven't been able to find any solid information. I was going to post a picture, but that isnt allowed here. Please let me know if that would be helpful, and I'll post a link (it's basically just a yellow wire coming out of the wall, connected to a LightSpeed box). Thanks! Tl;dr- OP is technically challenged, and wary of being taken advantage of; why did the people setting up the internet need to drill into the wall to set up a router? [link] [comments] |
I just got a new computer. What are some cool and/or useful websites and tips? Posted: 08 Feb 2020 09:31 PM PST It is a Dell laptop. I dont know much else about it, but I use google chrome as my default browser. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:19 PM PST Idk where to post this but I bought this phone a year ago and have been dodging having to get a phone number cause it only will let me use their data plan up to a year before I can use another/cheaper one but finally I've decided to say screw it and to get one but am having trouble finding out how? Am I stupid? Ik tracfone is affiliated with it so I contacted them on their website through a chat and they said to call a number. "I cant that's why I'm here." "I'm sorry we're no longer available at this time" wtf??? Idk what to do and google is only so helpful. [link] [comments] |
Apple Watch activation lock help Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:06 PM PST I bought an Apple Watch second hand off letgo when I got home to pair it was saying stuff about an activation lock and how I need to contact the previous owner. I did and I think they are either playing dumb or are just stupid. Is there any way to bypass activation lock? [link] [comments] |

Wanting to use my Turtle Beach Stealth 600 headset on my PS4 and my Switch Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:08 PM PST Hi everyone, I hope this is the right subreddit for this question. Anyway, I have a Turtle Beach Stealth 600 headset that I currently use for my PS4. Right now my gaming setup is just my PS4, but I would like to add my Switch too. What I'm looking for is a way to use my headset for both consoles without having to unplug the transmitter and plug it into whatever console I'm using at the time. Any responses are greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Inaccurate/wiggling cursor (laser mouse + mousepad question) Posted: 08 Feb 2020 12:41 PM PST I've got a Taipan Razer laser mouse, and a SteelSeries Qck Edge Gaming mousepad. If I move the mouse in a straight line, the cursor always wiggles sideways, as though there's something disrupting the laser a bit. I've had this problem with other mice and mousepads as well. Do laser mice perhaps not go well together with cloth mousepads? Or is this perhaps a problem that affects all kinds of laser- and optical mice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:17 PM PST In addition to the pc I built in my office, I'd like to have additional keyboard/mouse/monitors throughout my home that could be use independently and concurrently. I would also like the option of each terminal being a completely independent environment if need be, supposing if the wife and I wanted to play WoW on side-by-side terminals, for example. I have a pair of 1080 gtx, a 1950x threadripper, a couple m.2 nvme ssds and a few TB hdd. I predict I may have to start learning something vmware or linux, or break down and buy/learn something like aster multiseat. Any suggestions on what is possible? [link] [comments] |
Cannot install Isight bracket on Iphone 8 plus Posted: 08 Feb 2020 07:19 AM PST I tried to put in the 1.2 mm screw over the isight bracket and screw it in but it just keeps turning, I think I could have bent it I am not sure, has anybody else had an issue or can help [link] [comments] |
Autonaming PDF Files through content Posted: 08 Feb 2020 06:18 AM PST Hi there! I have a huge amount of PDF files with absolutely non-descriptive names (such as file001, file002, and so on). I would like to name them depending on their content, specifically on the first line of content that is supposed to be the actual title of the PDF (Application form, Contract for the flat, etc.). Do you know of any tool to do that automatically? The idea would be to get a batch of PDF files, and for each, read the content, get the first line, and rename the file. I know it's not a perfect approach but I can't really bother doing it manually because I have hundreds. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
How do I check what is my ISP's ISP? Can I even check it? Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:46 AM PST I had this question in mind and searched on internet but didn't find specific answer to this question. I can check who is my ISP but who is my ISP's ISP, or is there any way to check that? Reason being I just wanted to find out about how and where mine and my friend's links connect together? As we play online games and in some I get high pings but they get normal and vice versa, so just curious to know [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:38 AM PST Is there an adapter out there that will let me use any headset as my Xbox one headset? I have a pair of beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro headphones and I love them but ever since I sold my PC I have no use for them. Is there a thing I can use so that I can use them for Xbox? [link] [comments] |

I have a dumb non programmable thermostat, can buy I mount a device to control it somewhere? Posted: 08 Feb 2020 06:10 AM PST It is a thermostat that I have to adjust by hand. My landlord doesn't want me to replace it without hiring an electrician to replace it to code. Is there any device I could but on top to physically adjust it and make it smarter? I don't even know what to search for and perhaps it is a long shot. [link] [comments] |
