150GB a month for one person?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 04:06 AM PDT

Going to uni so online classes will probably take up much of the time.

I buy and read comics online, i spend a lot of time on youtube and streaming music but ill probably cut back on both there.

    Is 150GB enough?

    Network Bridge Help

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 03:29 AM PDT

Hey, so i have my PC plugged in via Ethernet, i also have a wifi router and also have wifi on my PC.
I can see that i can bridge these two connections in my adaptor setttings.
When i do this, i think my PC is still using my Wifi as the priority for my internet, which i dont want.
Is there any way i can change this so that it uses my ethernet as a priority or should i just disable the bridge.

    Streaming Spotify through multiple devices?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 12:36 AM PDT

I'm wondering if this is possible. I have a Sonos one, a shield connected to a soundbar, and PC speakers wired to my PC. Is it possible to have Spotify stream to all three devices at the same time? Or any other way to do so? Thank you!

No sound on Bluetooth computer speakers

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:51 PM PDT

The other day I stopped getting sound from my bluetooth speakers. I tried everything. The computer isn't muted, volume is up on the playback app, and volume is up on the speaker itself. I reset everything paired unpaired etc.

I think it may be a setting I'm just not thinking of. When I connect to the speaker, it makes a noise and whatever is playing on the computer will play through for a half a second. I'm at a loss and increasingly frustrated. Any ideas?

Why are some devices louder than others through their audio jack connection?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 10:29 PM PDT

I connected my speakers to my phone, my desktop PC, and my Raspberry Pi. Keeping the speakers at the same volume level, I have concluded that my desktop allows the speakers to get louder without distortion. I thought this wouldn't be the case since I didn't change the speaker's power input.

Is there a way to get audio coming from my cell phone and Raspberry Pi to get as loud as my desktop?

How does Tinder calculate the distance between their 2 users in the real time?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 03:19 PM PDT

How does Tinder calculate the distance between their 2 users in the real time?

If a user has set his search radius to 2 km, then logically Tinder will have to run calculations against all their active users in DB to find out which ones and then filter to sort actually under or above the 2 km range. This seems too big and impractical to do since the locations are dynamic and then they will have to keep doing it all the time.

Right now I am using GoogleDistanceAPIMatrix
to figure out the distance between 2 users. But if I have to do for each user against each-other, it means millions of permutations in case of 1000 users. Or is there any other way?

Is it possible for a laptop to get water damage without spilling anything on it?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:08 AM PDT

My laptop wouldn't turn on earlier this week, so I brought it into a local computer repair shop expecting them to tell me the battery died or my power supply was no longer working but they diagnosed it with liquid damage. The problem is I've never spilled anything on it (I promise) and I live by myself and haven't had guests over since COVID and I don't have pets and don't live in a humid environment (southern CA). Is it possible to get liquid damage just from something other than a direct spill or should I be skeptical of the diagnosis?

Are closed ecosystems such as Apple's bad for competition?

Are closed ecosystems such as Apple's bad for competition?

One of the requirements of perfect competition is a lack of switching costs, right?

If you own a bunch of Apple devices, it can be hard to switch, because they're all so integrated.

    Help TV Keeps Brightening

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:04 AM PDT

I have an LG TV i have been using for a few years. All of a sudden today when it turns on whole screen keeps going to a bright grey until it is unwatchable. It is not changing the brightness setting at all. I have tried resetting the picture setting but nothing seems to be working.

It almost ends up looking like a ghostly grey light distorting the entire TV

Help! I'm having serious internet connection issues

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 08:22 AM PDT

Current Hardware: NETGEAR Nighthawk Cable Modem WiFi-Router Combo C7000v2
    Internet Plan: 250mbps
Hardware Placement: First floor of a small home

My girlfriend and I have been both full-time work-from-home status since March 2020. Her job as a school teacher means she's on zoom teaching kids for 5+ hours each day. This has resulted in our internet usage going through the roof. According to our ISP (Comcast/Xfinity), we've been consuming roughly 700+GB of data each month on average.

Since school started back up, we've been experiencing daily internet disconnections. It always happens when my GF is mid-class on zoom. Her PC is upstairs and connected via WiFi. It's not a far distance but there's plenty of walls and an entire floor that the signal has to travel through.

I work within ten feet of the router/modem and I experience the same connection issues over WiFi.

We rent a small home with the modem/router placed in a really poor spot due to lack of space so running an ethernet cable isn't realistic and drilling holes in walls to run cable is out of the question (rentals ugh).

My question: can I do anything to improve internet coverage throughout the house?

I've read online that the modem/router combos are somewhat inconsistent. Can I turn my current combo into just a modem and then purchase a standalone router to possibly increase signal strength?

Any help/suggestions would be really awesome!

Anybody know what this USB charging port is?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:11 AM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/JR7O1wa

My regular mini USB cabling doesn't fit it? It's a little bit smaller and has a strange shape.

The product description says "8 pin mini USB" but I can't find any links to that.

Anybody know what this port is called or is it non-standard?

    Can’t bypass school blockers.

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 06:28 AM PDT

Hey, I'm a high schooler and my situation is the following:

So our school gives us iPads at the start of the year and gives them back at the end. The wifi router at school cam recognize whether or not a connected device is one of the school ipads(I think that's how it works as of now). It then blocks a bunch of sites including discord. I can't download anything on this iPad so i can't get a vpn.

so yeah idk I kinda wanna bypass this thing here's a pic of what the message says when you attempt to bypass it.... https://www.reddit.com/user/Another-13m/comments/iyx6mc/connection_issues_at_school/
