Booting two PCs from same USB drive?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 01:54 AM PST

    Hi there!

Can you install Windows in a USB stick and use it to boot two different computers, one at home, the other at work, for example; and have it work without too many crashes?

Why doesn't some company combine an eGPU and display in one package?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:32 AM PST

External GPUs exist. AiO PCs exist. I sense a market gap for monitors with integrated GPUs.

    Possible advantages:

    • freedom from restrictive expansion slot dimensions (no more ridiculous cooling solutions)
    • quieter GPUs (monitor sits in lots of open air, not tucked under a desk)
    • simpler PCs (250W PSU? no prob. 2 liter case? no prob.)
    • can design monitor+gpu to perfectly match

What's more, integrating the two doesn't mean you couldn't use the monitor without the gpu or the gpu with multiple monitors. It can have video input and output ports too.

    Why hasn't it happened yet?

    Account breach

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:55 PM PST

Someone tried to steal a videogames account from me and google told me. I changed my passwords and all and were all good, but they gave me his IP address. Should I do something with this or leave it alone?

Connecting PC to my new TV causes lag

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 02:38 PM PST

I got this new TV ( Philips 65PUS6754) and ive connected it to my PC using a HDMI cable, but the input lag is absolutly horrible, i move the mouse and it takes like half a second for it to move on the tv, and everything is pretty much unwatchable, meanwhile on my other monitors everything is fine. ive already tried setting my tv to gaming mode but it only helped a little. i have also tried connecting it with my laptop but it has the same lag.

    Strange Home Network Woes

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 05:33 PM PST

I recently bought a new computer and am having some strange discrepancies in network speed. In browsers or other applications in windows my download is about 1/5th of what it was previously whilst my upload has stayed the same however in steam/origin I can download at my normal rate.

    https://imgur.com/a/H8EXIxp

I thought maybe it was something to do with the new windows installation throttling services so I booted up a linux live cd but it also wasn't able to get close to my old speeds. The new motherboard is an asus x570-plus tuf and I've used the LAN drivers on their website.

My current router is the NetCommWireless NF18ACV , I'm able to get proper internet speeds off an old computer, does anyone know what I should try to look at first? I've eliminated anything else on the network but it still looks like somehow chrome is being shaped as opposed to steam/origin.

I've tried following this guide to no avail:

    https://dottech.org/26628/how-to-force-windows-to-use-100-of-your-network-bandwidth-how-to-guide/

My apologies if there's a format I've missed, usually I can bumble around on google but the difference in speeds between applications is whats confusing me since I thought maybe it was the cable or the ethernet adapter on the mobo. I assume the linux live cd would use generic drivers, would it be useful to install a distro completely and update to see if I can eliminate windows as the culprit? Process of elimination is confusing me as I am not sure if its network related or software/driver related.

    Thanks in advance!

Website showing as an unregistered domain on my moms phone but shows actual site on my phone and computer. Why might that be?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 04:30 PM PST

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the right place but my mom is experiencing a weird technological error regarding her website. She is a business owner and has had this site for years. She had some errors with it about a week ago but had it all straightened out. But now for some reason whenever she tries to access it, it shows and an available website domain to purchase. Or she gets a weird screen that says "this website may be impersonating to steal your data" What?! When I access it, it shows her website perfectly! What's causing her to have this issue? Thank you in advance!

How would I know if my desktop PC's per supply is causing problems or should be replaced? And how would I help maintain it better?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 05:08 AM PST

My computer is 3 years old now and slowing down at video editing (mostly due to higher demands I'm placing on it now in video editing). So, I'm upgrading the CPU and motherboard, but I should be able to keep my power supply as it is enough watts (650). But, how do I know when to replace it? Is it simply a matter of how many watts my upgrades require being higher than what my power supply can offer? Or are there more subtle signs that it needs replacing? Could it have the right wattage but still cause problems by just being too old?

Screen Sharing from desktop to laptop with keyboard input

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 11:43 AM PST

Is it possible to run a game or spreadsheet on a desktop and transmit the desktop's to a nearby laptop (via wifi), using the laptop's keyboard & mouse input to drive the desktop (which is "doing the work" with it's CPU & RAM)? Desktop would be a Windows machine and I'm open to a Windows laptop or Chromebook.

Is Windows Remote Desktop an option? Are there other options (e.g.TeamViewer)? This would not be a first person shooter shooter game, so I can tolerate some lag, but I don't know how much to expect.

"9", "o", "L" and "." Keys on laptop are not working

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:43 AM PST

Hi there! I dont if anyone can help me or if I should be asking this question on a different sub, but as the title says, there are select keys on my keyboard that no longer work properly and I dont know why. I have a dell inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1 laptop which I've had for about a year now. Other problems have occurred with it such as wifi always dropping and it not communicating properly with my printer. It always prints in black and white even though other devices can print color from it and my other devices will maintain wifi connection, so I know the laptop is the source of the problem... I doubt these are related but maybe perhaps they are? Honestly, I've been getting by, ignoring the other factors, but the keyboard is the final straw. Those 4 particular keys are inoperable for about +/- 10 minutes and then I will hold one of those 4 keys down and it will wake them all back up. They will lag but they will start to work again. If anyone can assist me with fixing those 4 particular keys, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

FYI I did try uninstalling the keyboard software and reinstalling it, that didn't do anything. :(

    Microphone not working

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 04:56 AM PST

    Hello!

I have a problem regarding my microphone. I have a laptop with a default microphone and this is working however if I connect my headphone microphone in the mic-aux jack it doesn't work. I thought that maybe my aux is broken since it's a fairly old laptop so I bought the USB to Aux thingy but this doesn't work also. So I thought that maybe it's my microphone that's broken so I tried it with another computer but the microphone itself is okay. I also watched a youtube video that said that I should reboot my audio programme or something like that so I did that. I meddled with my PCs microphone settings but no luck so far and I've run out of ideas.Any help would be welcome, I don't know if I meddled with my setting the correct way.

Edit: I tried troubleshooting my microphone but nothing was found.

Edit2: I tried another headset with a usb and also a mic and that's working but then again if I plug in my other headset with an aux it doesnt't work. I am so lost , I don't understand how this is happening.
