Im selling my external HDD and have few questions.

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 02:46 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

So I am planning to sell my external HDD. At the moment it is encrypted with Windows built in encryption tool. When I delete everything and format the drive, is it possible to recover these encrypted files somehow?

And is it possible to recover files that I "cut" from the drive??

If anyone know any good free tool to delete everything then let me know please.

    Thanks.

    Internet disconnects in random intervals

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 09:38 PM PDT

This is really hard to explain and I can't find an answer anywhere online.

When playing multiplayer games, every 40 minutes to an hour my internet will shut off/force itself to refresh. The down time is a second at max, but this is just very VERY annoying because it kicks me from whatever game I'm in. The error it causes in some games are:

-Rainbow Six Siege: said that my NAT type had changed and kicked me

-Modern Warfare/Warzone: forces me to go back to battle.net and relaunch the game

-Rocket League: kicks me out of the party I'm in but lets me stay in-game

-Minecraft (servers): kicks me from game

-Browser multiplayer games (example- Town of Salem, skribbl.io): freeze on the last screen before the refresh

-Overwatch: This one is peculiar. I'll get the red triangle disconnect icon in the top corner, and I'll of course tell my teammates I'll be right back. 50% of the time, the disconnect sends me back to the main menu but then drops me right back into the game, right where I was standing too! (I'm assuming this is because the disconnect/refresh is so fast?) The other half of the time it just sends me back to the menu and I have to rejoin.

    More points for clarification:

-if I'm in discord, the call won't drop; there is no audible hiccup or lag gap that happens while the refresh/disconnect happens.

-the network never stays down, it always comes back instantly

    • The issue doesn't occur on wireless setups, so my options are play with constant lag or disconnect every hour

    • It's not a computer issue. These disconnects occur on my PS4 wired as well. I've also tried different cables

    • I attempted to use a wired network adapter for my Nintendo switch but it rejects the connection, assuredly for this same issue.

-I have consolidated for my ISP, if that helps

Gonna post around at different subs, any and all help is appreciated!

Can my work see my home NSFW browsing history if I sign into my history on my work computer?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 10:48 AM PDT

    Hello!

So I use my personal email for work sometimes and had some websites I wanted to look at on my work computer that I new were in my bing and google search history. I signed into these accounts to grab the search history I was looking for and signed out. I have done this a few times before, but noticed that some NSFW sites were in my bing and google search history. I am no longer signed into these accounts on my work computer, but am wondering if my my work can see my browsing history?

I know that since these sites are over https that does protect me, but if my work does things like wireshark and proxy services (which I'm sure it does in fact do) can they still see my search history or would they just be able to see that I visited my search history?

    Looking for specific proxies

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 11:57 PM PDT

Hello, I am looking for these proxies I used to buy from one guy until he went cold and deleted his discord. The proxies had this name with letters e.g. myproxy1:2048:mylogin1:password123 . Port was 2048, based in USA, I still know correct proxy IP like 123.123.123.2 , so does anyone know what website could be selling these or a way to track what website are selling these because I pretty sure he was just reselling those from some company selling proxies. Thank you for help! :)

    Voice Recognition Arduino Build Fix?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 05:45 PM PDT

Hey Reddit! I need some help. My voice module won't connect to an arduino nano!

Here's the problem. I'm trying to get an Arduino Nano to make some LED lights turn on in response to simple voice commands. To do that, I got a Geeetech Voice-Recognition Module (I'll call it gtech). I successfully programmed the gtech, and it can hear a voice command and respond appropriately, but I can't get it to talk to the arduino for some reason!

I checked the arduino code - without the gtech, the lights run just fine and do whatever I tell them to with the Aruino Nano. As soon as I try to add the code for the gtech module (which also seems correct) and give a voice command, the lights don't do anything. There's no indication that the Nano got any kind of signal.

I can see that both the Nano and the gtech are working, they just don't seem to be talking to each other. Has anyone else had this problem with geeetech and arduino before, or maybe know a better place to ask this question?

    Thanks in advance!

Looking for a secondary monitor for Surface 3

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:31 PM PDT

Hello all. I would like a small secondary monitor to use with my Surface 3 and I'm not really sure what would be best for me to use. I would like something between 10 and 12 inches wide that is pretty light and portable. I think I've found a few good candidates on Amazon but I'm not sure about the overall quality of them. Has anybody ever used the SunFounder brand Raspberry Pi monitors for something like this before? Does someone have maybe a better suggestion for something similar? I really don't want to spend over $100 on something like this, but 7" just seems so small and all of the 10.1" seem to be around $130. I'm drawn to the Raspberry Pi compatible screens because they don't have big bulky monitor stands and they are lightweight. I can 3D print something that'll work for it to stand upright if I need to. Also I've considered starting to play around and learn Raspberry Pi stuff for a while and one of these could serve both purposes.

A little background if it'll help. I want a secondary monitor for my graduate school studies. I was kicked out of my shared office into a temporary office in my lab due to Covid distancing and I don't have a monitor hookup in the lab. My laptop screen is just too small on it's own and I've just gotten used to having multiple displays. Also I have to walk to my school most days and it's a few miles, hence the light weight and portability.

Also I'm not big on supporting Amazon, so I'd love if there is a third-party seller with a good reputation that can be suggested.

    Thanks!

    Lithium Ion battery outer "bag"

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 12:33 PM PDT

Hi. I'm brand new here, did a quick search and did not find the answer.

I am not an expert so I'm asking for help.

Short version of my question: Is a lithium ion battery from a kindle still safe to use if the outer foil 'bag' has been torn?

Long version: I just replaced the screen/digitizer on a Kindle Fire 8, 8th generation. I was unable to find any instructional videos or posts on that specific generation, so I was somewhat in the dark, but I knew it was more difficult than earlier generations.

Looking at the hardware, I thought I needed to remove the battery to carry out the operation. I was wrong, but that's what I did. It had a lot of adhesive under it, and in removing it, I tore the outer foil bag that contains the battery. The 'bag' is not adhered to the battery and really seems just like an outer bag of some kind. Underneath is a tightly adhered layer of a similar foil that is intact.

The Kindle is now back together and works fine.

Is the battery still safe in that condition?

    Thanks for any advice.

    [Searching] Videomeeting-Provider with multiple sessions?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 07:42 AM PDT

    Hi,

we are about to create a virtual job-fair for our university, where about 80 companies will take part. Every company will have a virtual booth, where visitors should be able to get information and if interested, be able to talk somebody from this company by joining a videochat...

    To keep things simple, we are thinking about setting 1 standard for the video calls, which every company has to use; Further I want to avoid that a lot of companies have to set up accounts and send me a link to their private session;

Optimum would be I can set up 80 different links (rooms) for the companies and each company getting one of them - so one link will f.e. be the room of "SAP" another link will be the room of "reddit",... and so on

Already looked at zoom, but couldn't find a solution that fits me and support-chat is only for premium users.

    TL,DR.:
I am looking for a good videomeeting platform, which allows me to host/create multiple different rooms at low costs.

Can anybody help me with suggestions please?

    Thanks in advance!

A way to make multiple gifs at once?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:52 PM PDT

Hey I have like 20 short videos that I want to turn into gifs all at once. I just want to put in 20 or so short videos and convert them into 20 gifs. I do a lot of gif conversion and I would like to know if there is an app or program that allows me to automate this as it gets tedious. Cheap/free would be preferred.

Portrait in a bloc of crystal, from photo to 3D?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:36 PM PDT

I'm browsing various businesses that offer 2D or 3D crystal / glass blocs with a customized picture engraved inside. It's not clear whether they can actually engrave a 3D portrait from a 2D photo that I need to send by email. Is this actually a thing? Do they spend time to model the 3D out of the picture, and is the quality acceptable?

I'm curious because when I was 10, my parents brought me to a place where it would first scan my face by taking multiple photos from different angles. Make spore sense to me in order to obtain a 3D render

A second cable run - how do I extend internet?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2020 06:45 AM PDT

Here is my situation: I have cable internet and TV through cable provider. I have a second house (we call it the Stuga) on my property where a cable was wired to (by the cable provider). This second cable is currently plugged directly into my TV to provide me with cable TV in the Stuga. My question: I assume this cable also could potentially provide me with internet in the Stuga. Is that correct? If so, how would I set something up on this second cable to get it connected to another modem/router to extend internet into the Stuga? I would assume I need a splitter so I can still run a cable into the TV for cable TV. If that's not possible, would a coax --> network cable adapter (still splitting a line to the TV) at least provide me with wired service at a computer?
