To any futurist out there: Once every building gets a teleportation booth, would they replace showers and toilets?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 11:51 PM PDT

After all, wouldn't you just need to stand in a teleportation booth for like, just 10 seconds, to beam away all of your solid and fluid bodily wastes, dirt, grime, and all other impurities from your body?

By beaming away everything you don't need nor want in your bodies, you could effectively make showers and toilets obsolete.

Anyways, would there be a downside to this?

Edit: Where would the waste get beamed to, you ask? Feces would get sent to fertilizer processing plants and possibly even vertical farms.

Urine- I'm unsure right now but I'm sure there are practical uses for urine someplace out there. Do you have any ideas where/how? Let us know.

Fat - could be sent to soap factories because some soaps have been made from fat. There are other practical applications for our body fat out there, but what can you think of? Teleportation could, in this way, effectively cure obesity.

    Using PC from school

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 04:24 AM PDT

Hey guys, I have some (simple) questions.

I study engineering and will sometimes have the need for more computing power (CAD, MatLab etc). My old computer recently broke down and I'm looking for new options.

I'm thinking about getting an iPad Pro or a MacBook Air together with a beefy PC.

    1. Assuming the PC would be always on at my apartment, is it possible for me to use my PCs computing power from school with some software? I will be dualbooting windows Incase I get the MacBook Air, if that matters.

    2. Are there any options for remoting into my PC from an iPad? Assuming I have a keyboard and mouse for the iPad.

My first thought was remote desktoping, but I'm curious and open for any suggestions/knowledge that I might receive here.

Please ask questions if this wasn't clear enough, and thank you in advance.

How do I turn off my microphone in a call without showing it?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 02:48 AM PDT

    Hey folks,

I want the program Zoom to show that my microphone is turned on/unmuted, but in reality no audio signal of my headset/microphone can come through.. So the members in the Zoom meeting see that my mic is on but I could talk to a person in the room and they wouldn't hear it.

Sry for the newbie question, I really would appreciate you help :)

    Free space on phone...

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 01:45 AM PDT

When items are deleted on a mobile, (photos, files, videos etc) I know they are deleted as 'free space'.

How long will it take for said phone to overwrite this free space, thus overwriting the deleted file?

My employer wants me to do code a certain application, however I don't think such a thing is feaible, where do I even start on researching for such a thing?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 01:06 AM PDT

So my employer wants me to build something along the lines of an application that does the followin :

You take a picture of say, the front of a store, you input the height and width of the wall, take some pictures from different angles and have the application simulate the store, and it allows you to

    1. Change the texture of the wall
    2. Build say, a pergola, and be able to view it from different angles, think a CAD render of the building
    3. Able to change the textures of said pergola

Now I absolutely think those things are possible, but automating this sort of thing without doing some sort of manual adjusments is just near impossible, I mean, there's no way you can just snap some pictures of a building, input some metre measurments and have a full editable render that you can do whatever you want with it even with bare minimum of adjusments, and even if it WAS, it is definitely not a job for one guy with minimal knowledge in CADwork...right?

I've offered him the option of maybe outsourcing this type of work to someone on the internet, pay him like $100 and have him do a full CAD render of said building, but my employer wants the whole process to be automated in under 5 minutes and have me build it all.

I'm asking if such a thing is even feasible, any and all input will be appreciated

    Planar QE8650 Touch Response Delay

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 10:57 PM PDT

Hi, I am using a Planar QE8650 touch screen and I am facing delay in touch response using the stylus. I have been trying numerous things from changing the touchboard softwares to cables to pc configuration but I'm just not able to make the touch flawless like it's other counterparts in the market. Would be great if anyone has any solution for this or is experiencing the same problem.

What prevents companies (Apple, Android, Google) from implementing ideas from other apps into their stock Clock/Calc/Notes apps etc.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 10:30 PM PDT

I know the answer is probably out there but I was hoping to find someone more immediately knowledgeable.

Essentially there are lots of features in pay to use apps that aren't available in stock apps. I know it had to do with patents but often there are many apps that are better than the stock apps?

Why not develop the stock app to be the best app for the user?

What are the actual taxes or fees referenced here: "Americans Taxed $400 Billion For Fiber Optic Internet That Doesn’t Exist"?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 06:07 AM PDT

Regarding this popular reddit link- I'm struggling to find details about how $400B were actually paid? I can't find references to any relevant taxes or fees and the only explanation of the title is from articles about the book that are trying to sell the book. Any additional context or information would be much appreciated- as currently I can only find one source and they're trying to sell me something.

    Do I need more RAM?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 05:46 PM PDT

I have a PC with the following specs:

    -Intel Core i5 - 6400 2.70Ghz

    -GeForce GTX960

    -8GB RAM

    -250GB SSD and 1TB HDD

    -Motherboard: Asus Z-170P

I do video editing and I experience a really low performance on Premiere Pro, even when editing 1080p videos it gets laggy. Checking the taskbar manager while editing I can see the Memory section is at around 80% (I have it locked at 75% so it doesn't use all the RAM) and CPU around 85%. While rendering the videos both are around 95%.

So my question is: Will adding more RAM substantially increase the performance? Should I upgrade the CPU too? Both of them? I would like to improve the performance obviously at the lower cost :) thank you!

PD: I can give any ohter specs if needed

PC booting to dark blue screen with cursor

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 01:12 PM PDT

My PC all of a sudden won't turn on properly, when it does boot it goes to a blue screen with a cursor and I cannot do anything no cmd prompt no task manager. I've tried automatic repair by shutting off 3 times and automatic repair boots to a black screen with a cursor but again no options.

I created a bootable USB with a copy of windows and same thing blue screen with a cursor and no options to do anything.

The PC is also making a whistling sound that goes up in pitch for a second, clicks and then goes down in pitch.

    Any help is appreciated

Notification system if my Python process doesn't run

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 03:01 PM PDT

I don't know if this is the best place for this, but I have a Python script that runs early every morning. It's running on my desktop right now (we are working on migrating this to a server.) Sometimes the desktop will restart over night and the process won't run.

I am looking for a way to check if I have received the completion email. If not, I would like to create some kind of notification (alarm, call, etc.) to my phone in order to wake me up. For obvious reasons, I wouldn't be able to host this notification system on my computer because a frequent cause of the issue is that the computer is off.

I realize this is kind of a longshot, but I figured I would check to see if a solution existed.

Edit: I have an Android phone, so my first thought was to get an automation app and check if I have received any new emails over night. If so, set an alarm

I have plugged the modem into the coax port in my room where my tv used to be. now its been sitting there for hours but the online light on the modem will not stop flashing. is this because my At&t internet is still connected down stairs, or is it another problem that I cant fix myself.

Looking for a cheap tablet with minimal features

Hi, I was really unsure which subreddit to post to, so please redirect me if this isn't the best one!

I am looking for a cheap tablet (preferably 8" or wider). It doesn't need storage, a camera, data, or apps. I only need to be able to connect it to Wi-Fi for Internet (just to look at sheet music so it can be slow) and YouTube. Any advice?

    Thank you!

    Question Regarding Dual Boot OS

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 02:15 PM PDT

    Hi Ask Technology!

I have been dual booting systems using the grub boot loader for awhile now, but I was recently asked to do a bootcamp dual boot on a new macbook pro for a neighbor. I got it done and was fairly impressed by the OS selection on the mac. It looks absolutely stunning compared to basic windows or open sourced bootloaders. My question is, is there a way to do something similar (a bootloader with a UI) on a windows PC that looks just as elegant, or am I stuck with grub for now? I tried looking at a few, but the only ones that I am seeing are basic bootloaders that don't look quite as nice.

    Thanks for the help!

Disclaimer: I actually happen to really like GRUB as it is quite useful, but I also enjoy the UI look and feel of the Bootcamp OS selection more.

Two problems with my laptop since day 1

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 10:58 AM PDT

I've had a laptop for 4 years, and there's two very strange conducts it has: 1- if i turn on my computer while it's plugged in, it's pretty much unusable because it works incredibly slow, forcing me to restart the computer unplugged. 2-when i use my computer while unplugged, it works well, as expected, but the moment i plug it in, performance drops considerably, not as bad as when i turn it on plugged, but still bad.

I've looked everywhere in google and reddit ever since i noticed the problem, but i haven't found a solution.
