Can I use SharePort even if my router doesn't have a USB port? Posted: 30 Mar 2020 02:20 AM PDT I heard about a thing called share port. It's so that you can share a USB drive over a network by plugging it into the router. This would be great for my work but I realized that my router doesn't have a USB port :( so I was wondering if you could use a USB to ethernet / rj45 adapter instead. Would this work? Or does this mean that my router isn't supporting it at all? [link] [comments] |
Skills related to computer science Posted: 29 Mar 2020 07:49 PM PDT I am a CS major, and I want to pick up on a new skill/hobby related to computer science or programming. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Can someone (an individual) see my browsing history on iPhone? Posted: 29 Mar 2020 09:11 PM PDT I have a sneaking suspicion that someone close to me is using an app to track my browsing history on my iPhone. I'm not a paranoid person but there's been some serious "coincidences" this person has brought up. I browse on incognito mode so there's no way they could be searching through my phone and these odd instances have occurred when this person wasn't physically close to me or my phone. After searching, there appears to be apps that you can download on the "victims" phone that don't appear in their app list once downloaded. This person did know the password to my phone and would have had plenty of opportunities to do that, if they in fact did. How can I tell if this happened? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Mar 2020 09:02 PM PDT Recently I decided it be a good idea for me to get my own laptop, but the thing is I don't have much experience with tech. I don't really need a laptop for anything work related. Just something I can use for school. Are there any brands that I could look into!? Things to avoid? Also for gaming, there are a few games I would like to try for example subnautica. Budget wise, I'm still in school so I'd have to ask my parents, I could go for something medium priced? I'm searching myself but I really don't understand alot of the technical terms. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Mar 2020 03:36 PM PDT Can a raspberry pi or mod of it hook up to my wifi network, then remotely share/transfer photos by interfacing with my PC? Here's what I want to save: Screenshots from a modified version of Skyrim Snips from PDFs Pictures from MS Paint I don't have internet only wi-fi as part of my cable plan at another house.
Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Mar 2020 07:39 AM PDT I haven't really tried hooking up my display to an external one (TV) until this quarantine because i'm bored. So basically, the native resolution of my display is 1920x1080p and the native resolution of the TV I use is 3240x2160 if i'm not mistaken, at least it's something close to that. Point is, it's not the same. When playing, I noticed that the best way to play smoothly with less input lag is by using the display second monitor only option via windows key + P, which is the TV and not through the mirror option. By doing this, of course, my main monitor would be black and only the TV screen is open. So that means whatever I do in my PC, like for example games, is now set at the native resolution of the TV at 3240x2160p. I double checked this at the display settings. My question is this: what resolution is my pc running through my GPU? Is it my main monitor's native resolution or the external one's resolution? (take note that only the external monitor is open due to the reason stated above). I ask this because if it is running the TV's resolution through my GPU, I'm afraid it's too straining because I don't have enough VRAM to run it at 3240x2160. Although it's working and I haven't really experienced anything bad so far, I don't want long term problems. THIS MIGHT BE A STUPID QUESTION BUT I JUST WANT TO KNOW. LET ME KNOW IF I'M WRONG SOMEWHERE HERE. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Xbox Series X Source Codes Being Held For Ransom? What does this mean exactly? Posted: 29 Mar 2020 09:34 AM PDT I've heard that someone is holding source codes from the new Xbox for a ransom of 100 million or some crazy price. I understand computer hardware, but the software end of things I'm not so competent in. Isn't a source code basically a set of instructions? Why would this be a big deal and what could it mean for the development of the console? [link] [comments] |
Antenna to Coax cable extention? Posted: 29 Mar 2020 02:18 PM PDT I've been moving my livi g room around and the tv antenna won't reach to the "good spot" to get a good signal. Can I use an old coax cable with a female to female adapter to extend the reach? [link] [comments] |

WiFi solution for a lot of devices Posted: 29 Mar 2020 05:24 PM PDT The house that I'm living in has probably 20+ devices connected at any given time. Yes not all of them are pulling a lot of bandwidth but its still more that the xfinity modem/router combo can handle. Does anyone have any suggestions for a solution? [link] [comments] |

Can an usb hub handle all this bandwidth? Posted: 29 Mar 2020 01:12 PM PDT Hello fellas, long story short i'm playing flight simulators, using an ir tracker and joystick with throttle( hotas). For a few days i'm interested in trying to play it on the TV ( cloning the computer screen ) but the tv and my sitting area is at some distance from the computer. So my main idea was to get a usb hub and connect all these peripherals ( the joystick, the ir tracker and webcam) and then extend the hub's usb all the way to the computer, but i have no idea if it will work or not. I cannot even imagine if these peripherals need alot of bandwidth or not. Powerwise, i read that there are powered and non powered hubs, if electricity is the issue, i have no problem in getting a powered hub. But the main thing is i need to know if this idea will work, or if you have better ideas, please share with me! [link] [comments] |
How to change PC's network name Posted: 29 Mar 2020 03:41 PM PDT So apparently, Google translate didn't work out well for me when I tried to translate everything on my brand new laptop which came from Poland, and I ended up giving my laptop, my email as a network name. With that, I mean whenever someone scans for devices on the network I'm connected in, he sees my email... Obviously I don't like that. Any suggestions on how to change that? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Adding video out to fish finder Posted: 29 Mar 2020 03:33 PM PDT I have a fish finder that does not have a video out function. The screen is an lcd, I'm wondering if it would be possible to disassemble and split/duplicate the feed and send it to a second display? [link] [comments] |

My smartphones can't read my SD card. Posted: 29 Mar 2020 11:15 AM PDT Up until yesterday it worked fine, but today my smartphones can't read it. But my mom's can.
