Is it okay to use my phone while charging?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 07:18 PM PST

I'm not sure about the articles I read online. Is it okay to use my phone while charging? I'm using my unit's original charger and cable. It's not fast charging and can feel minimal to no heat at all with protective case.

    PC or Laptop

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 04:03 AM PST

So I was originally planning on buying a PC but I heard that you can also get a laptop and pick the parts as you would with a PC. I just want a decent device that'll last a few years to game on. Which would be better a decent gaming PC (I'd be willing to pay around 1400 for it) or a gaming laptop? Does anyone have experience with both and can give me any advice on which is better?

    Thanks in advance:)

Alternative to Google podcast or a workaround Google app

    Posted: 04 Jan 2020 03:00 AM PST

Is there a good alternative to Google podcast (free one) as it needs web activity to be turned on and needs the Google app to be enabled. Tried searching around the web but no app seems to have the vast library the Google podcast contains. Or is there a workaround to use the Google podcast without enabling the Google app

Guitar Hero USB Dongles from eBay safe?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:27 PM PST

So I bought a USB dongle for guitar hero live for Xbox 360. I plan on using it with my PC (it works with the Xbox 360 dongle). What I wanted to know is that is there any way to check the dongle has no malicious software on it? It looks legit and the seller has sold hundred of them and also has almost 100% positive feedback.

I know I'm being a bit paranoid but is there any way to check?

    Gigabit Internet

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 08:54 PM PST

Hello and Happy New Year everyone,

    Quick question!

I recently upgraded to 1gbps internet speed at my home, I have the netgear nighthawk x6 r8000,

and the CM1000 Cable Modem also by Netgear.

My roommate checked for sure that the internet was upgraded by plugging directly into the modem to his computer with cat5e and his speedtest read 1gbps~ but whenever we are connected to the router instead of the modem the internet speed is maxing out around 220-230mbps. I have a cat6 cable connecting the modem and router and cat5e cables connecting to my computer.

As for my computer I have an ASUS ROG gl702vm gaming laptop i7 quad and 1060-6gb/strix which I'm pretty darn sure can handle 1gbps but no matter what I do it's maxing out at 220-230mbps. Is there any way to figure this out?
I have tested it over wifi and it's a tad slower at about 170 or so.

I have also made sure that my wifi and ethernet drivers are both gigabit compatible and up to date which they are.

Universal TV app builder for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire etc.?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 07:31 PM PST

I have apps for Amazon Fire, Apple Tv, Roku etc. Is there a builder that lets you build and design all the apps on one platform, and then pushes it to all of the different devices?

Help with finding a certain outdoor camera

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:01 PM PST

We have property off grid and I would like to install some cameras around the property. But it's hard to find stuff I'm looking for an to be honest, I'm not sure what I'm looking for exist just yet. I like the concept of the blink cameras and Arlo cameras being wireless but obviously being off grid, there is no internet out there.

We have electric ran to the building so it's semi on the grid and I was wondering if there are outdoor cameras that send the video captures(preferably only when motion is detected), that are wireless, that will record and transmit data to a hard drive or dvr without wires?

So think the blink cameras just I don't need internet or have and I have a giant harddisk store the data and can access when I go out to the cabin. I guess that means it would wireless transfer over Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz? Does something like this exist? I say outdoor because I would like to mount them around a new 30x40 we had built.

    Msi 2080 Super Problem

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:02 PM PST

I recently upgraded my gpu to a msi 2080 super gaming x trio. When I installed it and turned on my pc the rgb lights turned on but the motherboard would just blink and then turn off. Then I realized my 550 watt psu would not be enough power. So then bought a Rm750x corsair psu. I was told to get a 650 watt psu but I thought I'd play it safe and get a 750. I installed the psu and plugged everything in and my pc still wont turn on. The rgb lights turn on my motherboard but it does the same thing the motherboard blinks and a fan even starts for a second then it turns off.

    I have a,

Motherboard: Asus Prime 390-a Processor: I9 9900K Processor CPU Cooler: Hydro H100i pro Gpu: Msi 2080 Super Gaming X Trio Psu: Corsair Rm750x

    Aren't all of these compatible?

    Help with segurazo malware

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 04:25 AM PST

Hi! Somehow on my computer (new dell XPS 13 if that helps) this malware has been installed without me downloading anything. I have read other threads about this and don't really understand how to uninstall it. Also can anyone tell me what other viruses/malware this automatically installs.

Edit: When I try to uninstall it, it says I need permission from an administrator but it's my personal laptop and when I open the uninstaller it just opens Microsoft paint

    Learning tools to automate jobs?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:21 AM PST

Hello, I'm not looking to put people out of jobs, but I've heard many stories of people automating jobs that a program can do in much less time and money than an employee can. I'd like to learn to do the same! Could anyone be so kind to point me in the right direction of what kind of courses, tutorials, and tools I can use to learn how to automate jobs effectively?

I've learned that Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel) and programming languages such as Python are good for things like this. Any tutorial recommendations for stuff like this would be great!

    Thank you!

    Edit: second paragraph

Laptop with 3.5mm jack splitter - one speaker dies

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 09:39 AM PST

    Hello,

I am using a 3.5mm jack splitter - one going into my subwoofer and the other one going to the arduino to read data and make LEDs light up.

When I input the arduino jack in the splitter - one of my speakers stops working. Very strange.

Any idea what it could be?

    edit: I ran the following tests - I input the subfwoofer in one socket and headphones in the other socket. RESULT: left speaker dies;

    I input the subwoofer in the other socket and the headphones in the first one. RESULT: left speaker dies;

    So what's goin on here..

    Cheers

Seeking web design software/ site/ app for creating personal pages

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 09:07 AM PST

I have a colleague who is setting up a specialized consulting business. The model relies on being an aggregator for people who have substantial autonomy and who may come and go from the marketplace.

As a result, he needs to be able to set up a site with both desktop and mobile functionality, that enables consultants to set up their own respective personal pages, from which they will be able to serve documents, schedules, links, etc.

The clients all have desktops, owing to the industry, and will need to be able to access the content from there. Consultants may be more inclined to work from mobile devices.

Is there anything off the shelf for this?
