Are restrictions to things like Local Group Policy linked to the Storage of a computer? Posted: 24 Jan 2020 11:08 PM PST TLDR at the bottom For context, this is why I'm asking: My school is getting new computers, which will have insane specs for video editing. 2080ti, a top of the line processor which has yet to be named by the county (I'm assuming it will be a i9-9900k though), 32gb of ram, 700w psu, 2tb of nvme, and the IT guy said some would be watercooled. We're getting 25 of them, and there's a big problem with this that my friend and I are worried about. Over the last 4 years, the county has put more and more restrictions on new devices. We have managed to bypass most of them, but some devices we have not cracked at all, and none of the devices have managed to be fully modified by us yet, as it's mostly just us trying a multitude of things to gain access to certain things. We don't wish to gain full admin privileges for evil intent. The county is very neglectful of our needs, so if we need a 3rd party program urgently, or a plugin, we have to put in a request and wait MONTHS, and they usually say no regardless. So because of this, we choose to give ourselves admin privileges. But if they restrict these new PCs like we're sure they will, how can we bypass this? And if worst comes to worst, would changing out the storage work? Or rebooting Windows help? This is our senior year and the last thing we want is for these new devices to NEVER get full use. It would be a nightmare to the tv production program, and our teacher even agrees. The IT guys must completely disable cmd, run.exe, lgp, lsp, control panel, regedit, and basically everything else. The only thing that we can do is replace utilman.exe with cmd, and use net user administrator *, or create an individual admin account, but even that admin account requires the actual COUNTY-wide password to gain full access to things. We're just absolutely stuck, yet the current and older PCs we have are unable to work with programs like After Effects, especially at the level that we like to work at. But more importantly, we can't even do our assigned projects within a timely manner because it takes way, way too long to do anything with most high-end programs, and we don't want our only capable PCs to be wasted on negligence from the county. TLDR: Our county restricts all basic windows programs, and locks most of them out completely with a county-wide password. Would changing the storage out affect anything. We're unsure how these things work. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2020 04:26 AM PST Hi, I'm looking to buy a PS4 controller to be used with the PC. Reason for this is that I am more familiar with the PS layout than that of the Xbox, plus it's better for fighting games than the Xbox One controller. Can anyone who has used a PS4 controller on PC tell me about their experience? As I have read that their were latency experiences with the PS4 controller. [link] [comments] |

Is my cheap laptop too slow for this game (Stardew Valley) Posted: 24 Jan 2020 05:32 PM PST I figured Stardew Valley was a retro-like game that my laptop could handle, however: the minimum requirements are 2 gb of RAM and a 2 GHz processor My laptop has 3.7 gb of ram HOWEVER it has a 1.1 GHz x 4 Intel® Pentium® Silver N5000 Processor Does it being a quadcore make a difference? Is my processor too slow? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2020 12:16 AM PST As I continue to recognize the growth of AI from investors to private companies and beyond, I wonder as a business owner and entrepreneur how I should be keeping track of all this so that I can take advantage of what is rapidly growing and becoming a more realistic. It's hard to put a finger on now because AI is a blanket term that covers a lot of things that already exist to new amazing things that will soon be normal. How are you keeping track of all this AI stuff and making sure you don't fall behind as things start to change in your industry ? [link] [comments] |
Pros/Cons/Ideal situations for mobile broadband? Posted: 24 Jan 2020 07:54 PM PST So I've always been a big phone and hardwired desktop PC person. I keep up with tech in general pretty well, but I've just never been a big fan of using mobile broadband devices. I've never seen the value for myself. I have found a few situations where these might be more ideal, like students in a dorm with poor wifi, or maybe elderly people who don't need a full internet service. I'm new to a career that involves helping people with their technology and I want to be able to recommend proper devices to people and understand when someone would use these types of devices, whether that be data limits, serviceability issues, ease of access, etc. Thank you for your help! EDIT: I currently live in Australia while we're in the middle of this NBN roll-out if that changes anything, but from America originally. [link] [comments] |
keyboard shortcut to switch between windows of the active program? [windows] Posted: 24 Jan 2020 12:37 PM PST It doesn't seem to be built into windows so I tried "easy windows switcher" but it doesn't seem to work when I press Alt + `. Any alterative that does? [link] [comments] |
How do you find somebody’s IP address from their YouTube comment? Posted: 25 Jan 2020 12:43 AM PST This isn't a troll post, I'm genuinely wondering for educational purposes, for the love of tech itself and the cool things you can do with tech. I don't wanna hurt anyone or do anything crazy, the worst I would do it use it to scare people like in this vid https://youtu.be/yiav8_2_uD4 but the person has to be really, really shitty like I just found a whole thread of YouTube comments of guys admitting to abusing their wives and girlfriends and I kind of want to freak them out a bit not gonna lie lol, I wanna find out their state if possible [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2020 04:47 PM PST So a coworker of mine told us that her cousin has been missing for a few days and a couple days ago they got a message from a random number telling her about her cousins and some other things. They were able to figure out it's a prepaid phone through a friend but is there a way to track where the phone was last used from? [link] [comments] |
Best older phone to use as an emulation machine Posted: 24 Jan 2020 08:26 PM PST Gonna get a controller thing and just use it solely as an emulation machine to run older games on. I kinda settled on a Note 4 as it's priced under $100 and seems decently specced to handle most things. I'm open to any suggestions [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2020 09:48 AM PST Does anyone know of a way to look at a review that may have been deleted? When I search on google, the preview shows partial comments but when I click on the link that review does not exist? [link] [comments] |
My computer takes forever to load the login skin how can I fix this? Posted: 24 Jan 2020 07:18 PM PST My computer a Lenovo ThinkPad, on Windows 10, stays at the screen that looks like a desktop wallpaper that normally lasts only a couple seconds on most computers for several minutes before the password entry screen shows up. Pressing Ctrl-alt-delete does nothing, the enter button does nothing, space bar does nothing, clicking does nothing, straight up button mashing does nothing. I'm at a loss. Any tips are appreciated. IRIScan Book 5 Pro scanner on MacOS? Posted: 24 Jan 2020 01:11 PM PST Hey Gang, Does anyone know of a way to make an IRIScan Book 5 Pro scanner work with MacOS? I've already tried VueScan software, but alas it isn't compatible. Are there any other scanning softwares out there that would allow this to work? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
