Firefox's true advantages over Opera? (Features, not privacy or speed) Posted: 21 Nov 2019 02:31 PM PST I don't normally use Firefox. I generally use Opera for day to day use, because I like the sidebar having Facebook Messenger right there, the built in adblock and VPN, and just the familiarity of it, as I came from Chrome. The mobile app was quite nice too, and I was able to import bookmarks and other things super easily. It seemed to have all the features I needed. I've been trying out Firefox recently, and I don't really care about privacy at all when it comes to the internet. My passwords stay out of my browser, in an encrypted password manager, and my payment info/address are not saved in my browsers either. I was mainly curious if Firefox would use less RAM than Opera. When it came down to it though, the speed and computer resource usage was comparable for both of them. I ended up stumbling on "Enhancer for Youtube" when using Firefox though. In Opera, I don't really have many extensions. I installed uBlock Origin to catch even more ads, and then LastPass. If I want to, I can install stuff from the Chrome library of extensions as well. When I used Chrome, however, most extensions seemed pretty pointless. I never thought I'd need more than those two extensions with the default functionality that Opera gave me. Now, looking into Firefox, with Enhancer for Youtube, a large array of adblockers that have been catching EVERYTHING, and a feature that I haven't really looked into called "Firefox Send" (which looks impossibly nice), how do the browsers look in terms of features? I tried looking online, but only found the vague tech journalist posts that didn't mention anything like pop out video from Opera or Firefox Send. I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys. I was considering using both Opera and Firefox (and Chrome for remote desktop, since I don't have Windows 10 Pro), but now I'm wondering what each can benefit me with. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2019 06:58 PM PST The internet works fine downstairs where the router is. However, upstairs in our bedroom, it is often slow and causes Netflix, videos, etc. to buffer. I'm curious if a WiFi extender/booster or anything else would help. If so, what are some brands and models that people have had good experiences with? [link] [comments] |
Removing bloatware and optimizing my laptop. Posted: 21 Nov 2019 04:16 PM PST Hey there! Just bought the Acer Aspire 3 Laptop (AMD Ryzen R5 3500U/256GB SSD/8GB RAM/Windows 10) Hope I made the right choice going with this laptop. I need to know how to remove all the useless apps and bloatware? I haven't set anything up yet on it. I would like to optimize it for best performance before I do anything. Thank you for the help! Can the new 5G coverage fix current 4G issues I have with my mobile broadband? Posted: 21 Nov 2019 05:30 AM PST I have recently moved to a new place where my 4G has been terrible compared to my connection in my previous location. So bad, I'm considering moving network because the WiFi already sucks so I need my mobile 4G to be better. The only thing stopping me from moving is Three's upcoming 5G coverage by February 2020. Their site explains this further detail) but obviously they would exaggerate their claims. I am due a new phone so if I get a 5G enabled phone in February 2020, would this potentially fix my connection issues or is three Mobile's poor coverage in my postcode area permantently bad regardless of 3G/4G/5G? Posted: 21 Nov 2019 01:47 PM PST Hi everyone. I have been researching having an app developed, but the cost is much higher than I anticipated. So I wonder if there is an app that anyone knows of, where members users can submit simple.pieces of data to administrators. The important thing is that people have to create accounts and that data is only visible to the admins and users who have made accounts. Does anyone know if an app like this exists? EDIT for clarification: so basically, I have a group of workers (roughly 700) that need a very quick and easy way to report defects with heavy machinery, so admins can collect and organize the data. I also want admins to be able to send push notifications to everyone regarding known issues. We had an email system for this, but had a low participation rate. With the ease of an app, I believe participation will be higher. I've looked into custom apps and found the pricetag was too high to justify. I wonder if an app like this already exists. Posted: 21 Nov 2019 12:18 PM PST I received a pop up on my computer about 4 times that said "configuration manager remote control" it had my company name and it said "XXXXXX is requesting permission to begin a remote session". The pathway was our network and the name was something like admin. I IMed IT to see if this was a legit request. They said no 3rd party could remote into our systems and to restart my computer. They said it must be a glitch and if it happens again after restarting let them know. My question.. can this "glitch" really happen? Are they trying to view my computer, and can't they see everything without having to remote in? We are a big organization and I think the help desk I IMed is outsourced so not sure if they could see everything related to my computer? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Nov 2019 07:35 AM PST I know about robocalls and the scams behind a lot of them. Rarely do I ever get a voicemail, and if I do it's a weird automated message about social security, owing 100k in student loans or taxes or how my dad got arrested. I'm almost tempted to change my phone number. I have T Mobile scam feature turned on but it doesn't help. The only thing that really helps is setting all unknown callers to voicemail. Anyone have any legit advice to fight against these scumbags? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 21 Nov 2019 06:03 AM PST I know moving the transmitter can help but I don't know how/where to move it and the cord means it's on a short leash so I can't experiment. Would moving it far from my computer help? Can I make an antenna out of coat hanger and aluminum foil? Would rubbing salt and sage on the transmitter flush the demons out? Are there products that "clean" the radio waves or sound waves of static? It happens even if I don't have audio input plugged in so I can say with certainty it is an issue with the transmitter, headphones, or the space between. Any help on the fundamentals of radio clarity or methods I can fix this would be very much appreciated. Semi-related question: they go into sleep mode if there's 4 minutes of low volume or signal, and sometimes they'll go to sleep while I'm in the middle of playing a noisy game and I have to play a YouTube video or something to "wake" them. Is there perhaps something I can desolder to disable this feature? And could this be indicative of a low quality connection causing the static? [link] [comments] |
Is data recovery possible on snapchat? Posted: 21 Nov 2019 09:43 AM PST about two days ago I mistakenly deleted all the memories saved in the "My eyes only" portion of the app. Is there anything I can to to recover these photos or are they gone for good? I am on the latest version of IOS [link] [comments] |
why am i getting static noise in my type-c earphones Posted: 21 Nov 2019 05:43 AM PST so i just got a pair of type-c earphones (my first time trying them, been using the 3.5mm earphones before that), and ive been getting a static noise in the background whenever audio is played. Like when i am listening to music and theres just a static noise in the background, or playing a game and tapping buttons with audio feedback, it is always acompanied by a static noise. Ive tried the type-c earphones on 3 different mobile devices (oneplus 6 and 7t pro, and galaxy note 9) and theres static noise in all of them, but strangely when i tried it on my pc theres no static noise. So i was wondering whether its a fault with the earphones i got, or it is just a problem between type-c earphones and mobile devices in general. Only managed to test with different devices and not different type-c earphones as i only got that 1 pair of earphones. [link] [comments] |
