Wouldn’t it be possible to have EVERYTHING running on a remote server, and make computers/phones just be simple machines that connect to that?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:21 AM PDT

So, for example, a game. Instead of everyone having to download the game on their machine, and have machines powerful enough to support them, couldn't there be a server that runs the game, and people just connect to that?

I hope I explained my idea properly enough.

I'm guessing the main problems would be lag and needing a HUGE amount of hardware on your servers. But... would it be possible?

Windows 7 InternL HDD to Windows 10

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:53 AM PDT

I recently got a new computer with Windows 10.

Would it be possible for me to install the the old (Windows 7) internal HDD as a secondary hard drive in the new (windows 10) computer without ruining all my files?

The files I want to keep are mostly writing, pictures, and a few hundred gigs of game mods (many of which I cannot redownload).

My new computer has the connections for an extra internal hdd.

Thank you all for your time.

Need a program that handles reading data from a form into a database, triggering an email/SMS, and other follow-up steps.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:29 AM PDT

So the workflow I'm thinking of involves a number of steps, but the good thing is that it's very linear.

    What I'm thinking involves:

    1) Someone filling in a form

    2) A database receiving info from that form, and sending an email to the person (based on email inputted into the form) that contains a randomly generated code.

    3) The form being used to claim a coupon by someone at the client's end. This person should have a view of the database to know what coupons have or haven't already been claimed.

It does sound complex but it's really linear, and for my purposes, it just needs to be something very barebones that gets the job done (there aren't any extenuating circumstances to account for).

I'm curious about what comes to mind with regard to executing something like this.

For someone who knows only the basics of computers, but wants to learn coding, where would you suggest I start?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:54 AM PDT

Is there something I would need to study before going into coding for beginners? I know there's a lot of free content out there on YouTube, so while I'm in lockdown I am considering studying how to code. As I said though, I am a total beginner, I know nothing about coding or programming. Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Why aren’t more gamepads/wheels/flight sticks etc etc made with Bluetooth?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:04 AM PDT

I was checking out the t.flight 4 hotas for ps4/pc and it hit me, why aren't they all made with Bluetooth? Is it because of the power usage? Or take for example driving wheels, is because it would take to long for responsiveness to get through?

Then we also wouldn't need platform specific controllers, a driving wheel for Xbox/pc and one for ps4/of... just doesn't make sense...

I get that gaming companies and their controllers and that they want them to be console exclusive, but for steering wheels and such?

Well, if anyone has any ideas why that would be, preferably if it's not a theory but stated facts for a source or so, tried googling but couldn't really find much. Cause I know the answers to

    Probably because....

    Thanks in advance.

    Recording the police on android.

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 10:53 AM PDT

Hi all, I was curious if anyone knew how I would be able to record a video on my android phone that will go directly to a secured cloud account.

This is so that even if the police were to destroy the phone, the video would still be available on a separate database server to ensure the integrity of the situation.

Please don't mention the "mobile justice" or "hands up 4 justice" apps. These apps simply don't work. I believe there are police districts lobbying against this technology, because literally all of the different apps that are supposed to do what I'm describing simply don't work anymore.

Very suspicious if you ask me. If you know a workaround, please describe it, thank you!

Why have phones not replaced dash cams yet?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:31 PM PDT

Build in GPS, while most dash cams need an external add-on to track your location. Good quality 1080p or better camera. Satellite navigation on the screen side.

Only thing I can think of is that dedicated dash cams have better night vision through the use of infrared. Is that it?

    Email renewal?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 05:44 PM PDT

Hi everyone, about 6 months ago I purchased a domain name and paid for 4 years worth of registration. The domain name registration came with a email account attached to the domain name, which was free for the first 6 months. The free email account just expired, however, when I first set up the email account I re-routed it to gmail account (I set up auto-forwarding from the domain email account to the gmail account and I can send emails from the gmail account using an alias so it appears I am using the domain email account). I just tested the gmail account it appears that the domain email account is still working (can send and receive emails), so I am thinking of not renewing it since it's still active. Is there any risk with not renewing the email account? Is it normal for the email account to still function after it has 'expired'?

    Thanks in advance!

    Looking for a classic phone

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:20 AM PDT

Hello reddit. I am currently searching for a classic phone, you know, the ones with buttons and 8 bit ringtones. I need a phone with a battery that will last for at least 3 days and be able to make and receive calls, nothing else. After some research, i honestly think the best fit all around is a nokia 1100, but I honestly love the design of motorola w220 or w270. I am however undecided with those two because they have internet browsers, which is something i try to avoid because of privacy reasons. So my question is, can you recomend me a phone from that era (2000-2008 at the latest) that i can get for less than 25€ and maybe have a nice design like those two motorolas? Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Google Pixel Camera Not Working Anymore

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 01:01 PM PDT

Hey guys, shot in the dark here, I have a Google Pixel 2 XL I bought a year and 3 months ago. The factory warranty ran out after 1 year, and 2-3 days later the camera just completely stopped working. Doesn't work in the camera app, Snapchat, Facebook, anything. As soon as I open the app it tries working for a few seconds then just closes whatever app is trying to access the camera with. I have factory reset, uninstalled camera apps. I went online and saw that many people were having this issue, and no one really had an answer for it.

Anyone know any different? I can't upgrade the phone for another 8 months unless I want to buy out the phone (about 500 bucks at this point - not interested in that)

    Thanks guys!

What is the possibility to connect two smart phones by wifi for interactive video conference at same location without using data?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 11:01 AM PDT

I suggested wifi as I don't think technology such as bluetooth would provide the range or speed.

This is a search for a technical solution oriented to the real estate market in response to covid-19 to allow the homes occupant to do an interactive video conference with a person outside the home that could allow for the person to interact with the person on the interior and request they point the camera at specific locations and with high resolution video recording. This would allow for better comprehension of features floor plan and also identification of issues such as damage or stains leaks etc.. So it needs to be simple to setup and reliable data connection. One thought was for the agent to provide a pre configured camera/ phone to the occupant and alternatively have a pre-configured wifi router but not sure if there are affordable portable battery operated options or if there is some other method.

Maybe a technology such as chromecast can be utilized here?

I understand there are virtual tours etc. but these take take time to setup and are not nearly as interactive with the ability to be directed toward areas of interest.

Looking for a device that will accept audio (line in or bluetooth) and be able to output the audio as a mic

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 08:41 AM PDT

Does such a device exist? For example, playing audio through my PC to this device and then routing it back to the PC as a microphone. I want to avoid using things such as 'Listen to this device' to improve audio quality.

The wire connected to the fingerprint sensor (at the back) and to the phone itself got cut. (BTW, my phone is a Huawei Nova 2 lite, and I live in the PH). Is it the reason why my phone won't charge, or is it because of the fall?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2020 07:24 AM PDT

This question may sound kind of stupid, but please answer.

I was in an elevator, and I was playing an online game when I dropped my phone. Then, the plastic casing at the back detached from the phone ( which was glued to the back ). Because I was in a hurry, I picked my phone up, and the wire that connected the sensor to the phone snapped because I was holding on to the back cover, and the wire didn't withstand the tension caused by the weight of the phone.
