As of tomorrow, phones are banned at my school! Posted: 24 Nov 2019 02:15 AM PST It's not that big of a deal. I'm actually looking forward to it. It'll be fun to exist separate from this device for a time. What I'm not looking forward to are breaks inbetween classes when I have no music to listen to. Could someone recommend a device that I could use to play music and listen to i, could play Podcasts as well and isn't that much of a hassle to use? [link] [comments] |
Does anyone know if USB flash drives like the Sandisk iXpand can load apps onto them? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:50 PM PST I'm the kind of person who plays games on my phone from time to time, and I also kinda suck with keeping track of my storage. enough so that i can end up taking up 58 GB of storage on a 64 GB phone. I was getting fed up with this and decided i would look for a way to expand the storage on my iPhone 6s plus somehow, and now I'm looking at flash drives for iPhones. i'm a little giddy with adding 128 GB of space to my iPhone, but as I dug around, I started to realize that I couldn't find anything about loading apps into the flash drives. the one i'm looking at is a sandisk ixpand USB lighting flashdrive, and i cant figure out if it can store apps. can it? because i don't want to buy it and find out i can't use it the way i want to :/ [link] [comments] |
Looking for an answer about ram for my PC Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:47 PM PST I'm getting a new PC but I'm stuck in between 16 Gb 4000mhz ram or 32 Gb 3200mhz ram. I just wanted to know which one would preform better I guess. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Nov 2019 12:48 AM PST I went to sleep and woke up to check my phone and my banking app was open even though I haven't opened it the previous night. Is this signs of malice or hacking or fowl play? It's also coincidentally scheduled maintenance time and I can't check on my bank statement or any activity, so I'm turning here for help. Nest Protect early "End of Life" Posted: 23 Nov 2019 11:19 PM PST My gen 1 Nest is now giving me the End of Life chime, 2 years early. Manufactured: 2014 OCT 06 Replace by: 2021 OCT 06 I've managed to access the debug mode with USB and can see a bunch of dates in the Hex code. After copying and unchecking read-only, one could edit these dates using a Hex editor like HxD. My theory is that one could at least get it be operational until its advertised EOL date (2021OCT06.) Really just playing around with it, it's not going to be my homes sole detector or anything. And I realize this might violate TOS. Anyone have any idea why there are so many dates that make no sense? I speculate that since they didn't put any actual security on the thing, Nest chose to use inaccurate dates to prevent people from extending the software's End of Life timeout beyond their guaranteed date. But all I would like is to use the device I paid for, for it's advertised life span, without sending in for service. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Nov 2019 11:13 AM PST I don't know if this the right sub to ask but I want to know if there's a way to use animated desktop wallpapers on Windows 10. If anybody would like to help me please. [link] [comments] |
What video doorbell would be best for us? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 06:38 PM PST My parents are worried about security lately because of getting new cars + a lot of thieving/crime going on in the neighborhood lately. They have been thinking about getting a video doorbell. They want something that can keep an eye on our front+backyard and the cars directly in front of the house all night, with motion detection and recording. They also like the ability to talk to people at the door from anywhere on their phone. Out of the ring, nest, and blink, i'm not sure what the best choice would be for us(or if there is something better than those?) I know next to nothing about them and am just trying to get some opinions first. [link] [comments] |
Slow Throughput When Accessing My Gigabit Home Server Abroad Posted: 23 Nov 2019 05:37 PM PST Does anyone know how I can speed up file transfers from my home server in the Philippines to LA? I host an FTP/SMB/Web server at home (Philippines) using a NAS hardware connected to a gigabit internet. I can connect to my server from anywhere using WAN however my throughput when connecting from the US is very slow. I get an average of 100 kb/s transfer rate but when I'm in my home country, I can access my files at 30MB/s-80MB/s from anywhere as long as the network I am accessing the files from support that speed. I tried using the built-in SSL VPN solution of my SonicWall router (NetExtender) but the throughput is still the same. I haven't tried bridging my Internet in the US (Spectrum) to the connection at home (PLDT Fibr) using a third party VPN. Do you think this will help? Any recommended VPN solution for my problem? Using an Optical Cable to Bypass a TV’s DAC Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:05 AM PST I bought a Yamaha amp recently and when I watch TV, I want the amp's internal DAC to process the audio signal coming from my TV. Will an optical cable traveling from my TV to my amp bypass the TV's internal DAC, so that processing is only done by my amp? Or do I need to use another method? FYI, my amp does not have an HDMI port. [link] [comments] |
Why are there no Thunderbolt 3/USB-C Sata cables that provide 12V power to the drive? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 05:18 AM PST The great thing about Thunderbolt 3 is that it can provide up to 18V and 100W of power to peripherals. That is way more than what a 3.5 inch hard drive requires. So why am I not seeing any Thunderbolt 3 SATA cables that don't require a mains power adapter when using 3.5 inch drives? The reason this would be great is because I often have to access data in places with no power. It would be great if I could use the many 3.5 drives I have and just power then through my laptop. Plus there would be no danger of a power cut causing data loss, because the laptop's battery would continue to power the external drive. So... is this just something no one has thought of, or is there a technical limitation that prevents this from working? Or do these actually exist, in which case, please provide a link? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:26 AM PST Hello, I have a question in regards to those USB laptop docks that I see. Some of the newer laptops that I have been looking at have USB-C ports, and some don't. While I have not been able to find a clear answer when I search, it looks like a USB-C dock would perform better than a standard USB 3.0 dock. If a laptop could play a game at full resolution with medium settings, would this performance be reflected through monitors connected to a laptop dock? Additionally, if a laptop could do some normal non-intensive video editing, would a laptop dock impact any performance? I know that some laptops might have proprietary laptop docks, and while I assume that those will perform much better, I do not know of any specific laptops. But, once I know what a laptop dock can do, I may be closer to knowing which laptop I should get. Thank You [link] [comments] |
How can AWS be used to increase cloud transparency? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 03:14 PM PST What features of AWS are crucial for the transparency/security and what are limitations to be aware of? [REQUEST] Tablet/PC hybrid for senior citizen? (No battery, but no cables) Posted: 23 Nov 2019 03:04 PM PST Hi guys! First time posting here, I don't know if I'm in the right sub and english is only my fourth language, so I apologize for any grammar mistakes. My mom is around 65-ish and she knows how to use WhatsApp and YouTube on a basic level, but she's afraid of the smaller buttons on the apps of her smartphone so she does things like never maximizing the video window. I've thought about gettin' her a smart TV but trying' to teach her how to use Spotify with a remote control or with a wireless keyboard could be a challenge. To top it all, she doesn't want to stop using her old stereo with no bluetooth. Is there something like a bigger version of a smartphone that connects directly to the household power so it doesn't need to be recharging daily? Mobility/portability is not an issue, it would sit next to her current TV. I'm from Argentina so I'm not looking for a particular brand or model, I'm looking for a particular technology that I'm not sure exists. If it doesn't, I guess I can change the launcher of an Android tablet to put giant icons, but the battery thing is still a problem. Any other ideas would be welcomed. [link] [comments] |
mezzmo media server web access does not work Posted: 23 Nov 2019 02:34 PM PST Hello to everyone, I'm trying to configure mezzmo media server to be able to watch the vidoes that I have stored on my PC when I'm not at home, using the connection of my mobile phone. On the webpage I read that I can do that. I think that I have some kind of problem with the ports settings on my router. By default it assign port 2477 if I connect to mezzmo inside the LAN and 53167 outside. These ports are closed on my computer (I'm using Windows 10) so I choose port 53168 for the public port (it is open) ,but I don't know what port can I use for the private port. I've tried to scan all the available ports and I found some of them and I've placed them on the configuration panel of my router. I haven't been able to find one port that works. When I try to load the page : http://192.168.1.6:8200/web/login?user=ziomario and http://192.168.1.6:8200/web/login?user=ziomario , it gives the error 503. (8200 is the closed port that I'm not able to change). I've disabled the Windows firevall, the router firewall, karspersky total security and the anti-malware. I don't know what else I can do. Please help me. thanks. [link] [comments] |

Where to find a temporary computer out in public? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 09:31 AM PST (Hopefully I'm posting in the right thread.) Dilemma: I accidentally left my laptop at home, and I have to get online for work. There's no option of going back, and the site requires a desktop. I have an iPhone, so I've been trying out various desktop apps. Except every single one has given me the same thing about the site not being iOS supported. Question: Does anyone know where I can gain access to a computer somewhere in public for about an hour, or have some idea how to bypass the whole iOS not supported issue? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
