Best way to test on 10 screens without having to buy 10 screens??? Posted: 13 Dec 2019 03:46 AM PST I have a dev project I am working on which requires 10 separate 1080p displays aligned in a decagon. The problem is I only have three screens but I want to be able to test on more. Surely there is a better way for me to test my project than having to buy 7 more screens and several more computers to run it from these screens? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Dec 2019 02:36 AM PST We bought a really cheap projector online. It has NO HDMI port- only composite input, 3.5 audio/visual jack and USB for an input. The goal is to use an android phone (maybe an iPhone) with the projector for as cheap as possible. Right now we have a micro USB to HDMI adapter and a bunch of RCA/composite cables. My idea is thus: Phone --> Micro-to-HDMI adapter -----> HDMI to composite adapter -----> projector. I was also thinking of using an HDMI to composite cable instead of the second adapter, but I'm not sure if that would work since there is no conversion occurring. Perhaps just a micro usb to standard usb cable would do the trick? Not really sure how outputting video from a phone even works. If anyone could suggest a better, easier, and/or cheaper approach to this problem that would be great. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Need a way of delaying windows Posted: 13 Dec 2019 01:02 AM PST So the way this should work is i need win to either wait on login screen or show some kind of logo, until some of my apps activate and only then should the logo disappear or win log in. [link] [comments] |
How come websites like Twitter/Youtube dont put easy to use download links on their videos? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:57 AM PST Everyone downloads them anyway, its not like its hard to do - they just make it inconvenient and subject their clients to viruses/etc from sketchy third party websites that can just read the blob data. it seems ultimately pointless to do this [link] [comments] |
Phone Situation For Study Abroad Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:18 PM PST Hey everybody! I am in a bit of a pickle at the moment, and I was wondering if I could have some of your expertise. Next semester, I am going to study abroad in France, and I was planning on purchasing a SIM card when I got there. Currently, I have a ~4 year old S7 edge which is in poor condition. I went to BestBuy tonight to look into upgrading to a reliable S10/S10+, and here are the scenarios which I have concluded:
I was most interested in the fourth option, but I am unsure about how trustworthy this website would be, and if I can be assured that I would be getting a phone that is both compatible with Europe and Verizon once I get back (something like CDMA?). What would you recommend? Is there another superior option that I am missing? Thank you so much! [link] [comments] |
Where exactly is a MAC address stored? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 04:44 PM PST I'm watching a video on networking and it went over MAC addresses and now ARP and stuff but I don't completely understand where the address is. I understand it's unchanging and given by the manufacturer, but what piece of hardware actually contains it? The processor? The ethernet cable? the motherboard? What piece would one change to get a new one? [link] [comments] |
Who can trace the source (IP's) from where my Flask based website is getting its back-end data from? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 04:16 PM PST I have a python based website hosted on Digital Ocean. On the server side this is calling a database and a cloud function based API hosted on Google Cloud that I setup myself. My question is: Can someone trace from where the back-end of my website is pulling in its data? I assume Digital Ocean can but is it possible for a third party to trace the source of my data? Is it bad to have different frequencies between RAM and CPU? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 05:25 AM PST I know that RAM sticks with different frequency is bad, but is there any problems if my CPU has 2.9 GHz and my 2x8gb RAM sticks has 2.4GHz? P.S. This question might sound stupid to some people, but I'm just a beginner in this field. [link] [comments] |
Internet speed limited on one workstation. Posted: 12 Dec 2019 03:04 PM PST The internet speed from my computer is stuck, going no higher than 150Mbps. Previously I could get around 400 down and that's what I'm paying for. I tried without the router and connected directly to the modem with CAT6, still only getting around 150 down. Oddly, from my laptop connected either through the modem directly or through my router with CAT6, I get the full 400. So I know it's something to do with the computer. I haven't found any settings that should limit the bandwidth on my computer so far and I'm at a total loss as to what could be causing this. I even tried installing a new NIC instead of using the port on the motherboard and get the same exact speed. Can anyone else point me in the direction of what I may be missing? I haven't reformatted yet, but that's my next step this weekend if I can't spot the setting that's causing this. [link] [comments] |
Why can’t existing phones that already leverage the proper bands utilize the 5G signal? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 11:39 AM PST I was looking at T-Mobile's 5G US rollout. Their current nationwide footprint is using 600mhz. Most recent phones (from LG, Google, Apple, and Samsung), already support 600mhz frequencies. Shouldn't it then be possible for a baseband update on these devices to allow them to leverage the new 5G speeds? Why is new hardware required? I would understand if it were specifically for mmWave, but what prevents existing hardware from being used this way? [link] [comments] |
What do you call plastic stick-thing that Tech YouTubers use when dismantling a smartphone? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 05:47 AM PST I was looking through YouTube for suggestions for phones to buy. I noticed that many of them use what looks like a plastic flathead-screwdriver shaped thing to teardown phones, like using it to disconnect the connective ribbons and stuff. I got curious and wanted to know but I don't know how to phrase my question so to describe that plastic tool. Is there a name for it or is it just some random plastic. Just curious. Best way to implement large touch screen calendar Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:31 AM PST One way I was thinking is to have a large touch screen monitor running Windows with outlook in touchscreen mode. Any other methods I should consider? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Dec 2019 08:47 AM PST I have a USB device that I would like to remain plugged in, though it constantly runs while plugged in and I only use it rarely. I was hoping to splice in a toggle switch mounted inside another utility box I'm designing. How would I wire this? USB has 4 wires. I could wire all 4 of them to a switch or separate switches, but that seems unnecessary. Can I just run the red (5V I believe) through the toggle and leave the others connected normally? Posted: 12 Dec 2019 07:03 AM PST I hope this isn't too stupid a question....I want a way that I can use my phone or laptop to send a message to my home from my teenagers to see when they get home, some kind of message board that is controllable remotely... could it show up on a smart TV? We don't have Alexa or anything of those things because of weirdo eavesdropping possibilities. I don't know even what terms to use to describe what I'm looking for an online search!
