Would Helios Modular Lights help prevent black images for a transparent pc monitor?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 04:19 AM PST

basically trying to make a transparent lcd monitor but since it needs direct light in order to prevent black spots/images, would the hexagonal helios modular lights behind the monitor prevent such a complication? Thanks

    Help Requested

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 07:36 PM PST

Yesterday downloaded one episode of anime from a site that illegally provides it. The file didn't even work for some reason, so I did not get to view any of the content at all. I decided to delete it entirely today. My question is, will my parents receive a letter from our ISP asking me to cease my piracy even though it was such a minor offense? Thanks in advance.

    Comparing software reviews

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 09:55 AM PST

I'm responsible for comparing different eQMS software, and I was wondering what a really good website(s) would be to read reviews of different software without a high probability that the reviews were purchased, or that troll farms submitted a bunch of hooey reviews.
    Thanks for the help!

Can someone tell me if upgrading to a higher tier internet speed will actually result in faster download speeds?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 12:19 PM PST

Google hasn't been much help but I want to know if it's worth going from maybe 70 mbps to either 300 or gigabit speeds. Providers suggest it's a much faster experience but the internet seems to say otherwise. There a simple way to understand how this works?

There's a few people in the house with basic usage. Biggest usage would be multiple Netflix accounts running and some YouTube at the same time. Everything is WiFi. Mix of laptops and phones.

Does a UPS unit really have a smaller capacity than a power bank?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 09:07 AM PST

I am looking for a UPS unit. I want it to supply three freezers with energy in case of a power outage. We store a lot of harvested food from the garden and don't want it to be wasted in case of a power problem - which happen here from time to time. On the other hand, we don't want to spend a fortune. The maximum combined power draw of the freezers is 500W at 240V, but the average consumption is just 68W, according to spec.

As an example, I looked at APC Back-UPS BX - BX1400U-GR - among the consumer-grade UPSes it seems to be one of the largest. Maximum capacity is 1400VA, which they say equals 700W - that's enough. It contains two lead-iron batteries of 7.2Ah, so 14.4Ah at 12V, equals 172.8Wh, so about 3 hours for my freezers (am I calculating this right?). That's not a lot. The thing costs EUR 170.

On the other hand, a random power bank with LiIon battery offers 30Ah for EUR 30, but not enough output for anything beyond a cell phone.

Did I make any critical error in my calculation? If not, why do the expensive UPS units contain such relatively small but heavy and expensive batteries? Is there any useful alternative for me or do I have to look at UPS+generator for my use case?

PLEASE HELP ME: PC won't boot (No display, beeps a few times, then zilch)

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 07:42 PM PST

    Hey all,

    Short Version:

    • Power on PC
    • No display (no signal at all)
    • 1 Long Beep, then 2 Short beeps (or so it seems)
    • I have a video that demonstrates my issue, dunno where to post it though (help?)
    • Began troubleshooting GPU = 0 results.
    • Reseated RAM, got a "Power" error instead this time
    • WHAT DO?!

    Long Version:

Got myself a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 Motherboard that isn't putting out any display whatsoever (also has no internal graphics just a heads up), and then beeps 1 long beep and then 2 short beeps. At least that's what it sounds like. I don't know at this point. After the beeps though, nothing. It sounds like the computer is doing work, but absolutely nothing appears on screen. I uploaded a video to Vimeo but don't know how to share that here within what the rules allow for. I'm n00b redditor, still wet behind the ears, don't want to accidentally do things I'm not supposed to. I highly recommend you watch it though, takes 30s roughly, but will explain why I'm so confused at the moment better than my words probably can. If someone could tell me how I'd go about sharing that link, or if you'd like to view it, let me know and I'll provide it in a private message or something (again, idk if that's allowed).

I thought it was the GPU because that's what the manual seems to suggest is the issue based on the error code given by the MB, but swapping that out hasn't changed anything. I swapped out to a really low range GPU just to be sure it wasn't due to lack of power to the part, and I've swapped over PSUs although the PSU I'm currently testing with is weaker than the last @ 300W (previously 430W), because I blew the previous one up... 😅 There's a whole other post about that scenario, which I posted under my other acc /u/IDKJustTryItAndSeeOh I also used the PCIe x8 port on the MB too, as opposed to the PCIe x16 one (as the "testing" card is PCIe x8 anyway), so I also doubt it's the port itself or that the GPU was incorrectly seated.

So unless I've missed something my problem is, in short:

    • No Display
    • MB error code: 1 long beeps, 2 short beeps - Monitor or Graphics Card Error(?) [Currently not actually too sure of this, read the updates below for more on that.]
      • Not the card itself
      • Not the PSU
      • Not the PCIe port or the way the card was positioned

I have another MB here in case I just need a new one of those, but hopefully it's not the case as I'd rather keep a spare. What are your thoughts?

UPDATE: Since posting I thought I'd try reseating the RAM, and when I turned it back on, a different error sounded. This one composed of short, continuous beeping (damn well most annoying thing I've ever suffered). Manual says this is a power issue, but none of the power cabling was touched at all, just the RAM, so I'm puzzled why this suddenly happened. I'm now unsure if what I originally heard was 1 long and 2 short, or 1 long and 1 short (but it crackles through the speaker sounding like 2). This error code (1 long, 1 short) just so happens to be for a memory issue... See where I'm going? The other reason I think this is, when the continuous beeping went off, I noticed the beeps were not long like the first tone in the initial error I mentioned, but were also noticeably longer than what I originally assumed to be the short beeps... approximately DOUBLE their length. My understanding of how the MB "communicates" is that it's strictly bitonal, like Morse code, consisting of only Dots (short tone) and Dashes (long tone) with no 'medium-length' or 'halfway-inbetween' tone at all, which would suggest I've misheard something, somewhere, given the sudden emergence of an apparent 3rd tone...

UPDATE #2: I just watched the video I uploaded of the issue, again, and now it sort of just sounds like one garbled tone. Can someone please confirm what I'm hearing? I'm going insane now. 🤯🤡 The vimeo link is available to those who care enough to help! Though, reminder, you'll have to guide me on how to do that the right way, if there is one.

P.S. I posted this once before under my other account however I didn't realise I'd somehow managed to attach a video where apparently this subreddit won't allow for it, and as a result I think it limited my reach? So posting again, and also to align it with my new account name. Desperately need assistance! Thank you for your time.

    Questions about digital picture frames

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 12:12 PM PST

Not sure if this is the right sub for my questions. My grandma recently got put in a nursing home and no in person visits allowed it has more it very difficult for everyone in our family. So I'm looking for a easy to set up digital picture frame. The nursing home has WiFi that can hook up to the picture frame. So I want to be able to have an app or website I can used from my house to update/upload pictures to the frame. Hopefully the frame can hold lots of pictures(100?) cauz my grandma has a big extended family. Looking for something at least 7-8" so she can see it clear. Is there here any type of setting where it would go dimmer or turn off at night so it doesn't keep her up? Also hoping I can can do everything from my iPhone 10 because I don't have a computer. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Keep getting spam texts(iMessage) from a foreign email?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 10:00 AM PST

    Hello all,

So I have been recently getting texts from foreign email addresses with sexual links (which no- I do not click).

Coincidentally, I started getting them the day I told a guy I was dating we were done.. So I'm not sure if he did this or what. But I'm getting these texts to iMessage and really don't like it. Is there anyway to prevent getting more? They're coming from more than 1 email address.

    iPad advice needed!

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 03:44 PM PST

So I bought an iPad pro 12.9 4 years ago, and I've been using it quite a lot for studies/digital art. It started acting up lately, battery wise, restarting randomly multiple times a day, and I'm also running out of storage. I looked into the new 2020 iPads and I found this deal, a one month used 128gb 11 inch iPad pro with the apple magic keyboard for $800. Now the question is, do I wait till 2021 and see what the new iPads will be like, or do I take the deal? Anything specific I should be looking out for when I inspect the ipad/keyboard?

    iTunes Issues

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 10:45 AM PST

When I try to download pdf files from my Windows computer to my iPhone, it doesn't appear on my phone. This used to work before in the past when I would drag and drop my pdf files, but now it isn't. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but one thing different that I am noticing is that my computer isn't waiting to connect to iTunes. Before this issue, I would have to wait a while for iTunes to sync to my phone, and it would say something like "2 out of 4" at the top. Now it isn't doing that. What am I doing wrong?

Need advice about wireless microphones and video capture please

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 06:09 AM PST

Firstly, I'm kinda dumb so imagine you are explaining to a 3 year old.

So, I need video capture of a room from a set angle (simple enough, camera mounted to wall), but I need to be able to capture audio from two people, handsfree and free to move around.

I saw on amazon the type that you see on TV, that presenters have with a box on their belt and a thing that clips on the clothing. Do the audio and video get captured separately? Do I need a computer in the vicinity to feed it in, whether I was recording or streaming it. Can anyone explain how it would all work?

Also what would you smart people recommend to actually buy? I can't afford really expensive equipment. I hope my explanation of what I want is clear, but if not I can always clarify and thank you for your time.
