Why are on-field newscasters on such a big video delay? Internet video chat never like that? Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:35 PM PDT When you watch the news, you'll see the on-set newcaster trying to talk to someone out on the field. They're always on a HUGE voice delay. But when you use facetime or zoom or discord video, you never get awkward delays like that. I remember the news being like this since I was little... but technology has gotten way better since then.. but the news never has? [link] [comments] |
Can a website know that screen sharing through Facebook Messenger? Posted: 30 Sep 2020 05:08 AM PDT Will a website on the Safari app on my iOS know that I am screen sharing? Is it able to gather that kind of data? [link] [comments] |
I need a device to bring wifi to the basement, but one I can still plug my PC into Posted: 30 Sep 2020 04:46 AM PDT I'm renting the basement of a townhouse, which unfortunately means that the wifi I get is spotty. My current solution works alright but is a bit of a hassle. I have a TP link powerline hooked up to the modem, and then have that plugged directly into my PC. I then use my PC as a hotspot to give wifi to the rest of my room (Chromecast, consoles, phone, smart lights, etc.) The problem with this is that it means I only have wifi while my PC is on. What I want is a device that I can plug into my powerline to provide constant wifi to the basement, that I can also directly plug my PC into for gaming (powerline isn't quite as good as just plugged in directly, but it's miles better than wifi). At first I thought I could use a router, but that seems like a lot of overkill when I essentially just want a wired range extender. It would be a bonus if the device creates its own SSID like my PC hotspot does to keep my devices seperate from my housemates (before my current setup I've been woken up too many times from somebody misclicking which device to cast to and turning on my tv) but it's not essential. Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:27 AM PDT I saw a "JPEG Reacable" decal on an old dvd player (SEC DVD 430) that I'm modelling in Blender, and I've never heard of it before. Even Google couldn't provide an answer, and since I can't attach an image, here's the link to the photo: https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/hcgAAOSwnxxeOY-H/$_57.JPG (it's the third logo from the left) [link] [comments] |

Record classes when not at home Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:05 AM PDT My uni starts next week and I will be working in the morning so I would like to record the lectures. I used to connect to the zoom room and record with obs while I was away during covid quarantine when I only had one lesson. But now I will have more so I am looking for a program or something to preset the rooms and times I want to connect to and then leave home. Is something like this possible? Thanks [link] [comments] |

I can’t notice the difference between 120hz and 60hz Posted: 29 Sep 2020 10:59 AM PDT I always see people say that you can instantly tell the difference but I have tried phones at stores that I made sure has 120hz turned on and I don't notice the difference at all. I even have a iPad Pro 2nd gen with ProMotion and I still can't tell the difference. Anyone know why? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:37 PM PDT Hi all! I'm having trouble with twitter on my iPhone SE. I just re-downloaded the app, after having been off of twitter for 3/4 months due to storage limitations on my phone. Am I missing something, is my phone broke, or has twitter removed the bookmark option? I can't find a way to bookmark tweets anymore! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:21 PM PDT Ok, so I have an Alienware 15 r4 laptop with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card and when I start to play some more graphically taxing game like Skyrim or No Mans Sky the screen starts to flash black randomly. I honestly have no idea whats happing or how to fix it but I heard it might be my drivers and I need to update them. How do I do that? I have absolutely no idea how to use computers really or what any of that means so can you guys please help me fix the screen flashing thing. Thank you all!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:03 PM PDT For context:
I've been reading about FRC and I've been wondering if there's a chance we'll see software to enable FRC on any monitor in the future. Let's say NVidia goes all out and decides their GPUs will be able to turn any 8-bit monitor into an 8+2-bit monitor by making their GPUs make the pixel colors flicker between frames for higher accuracy, creating artificial 10 bit color via software, similarly to the NVidia color settings in the NVidia control panel. Would this make sense, for example? Would this be a dumb idea? Why? Based on what Wikipedia says, some monitors already turn FRC on/off to achieve HDR? I'm also confused if the FRC flicker happens all within one frame. Wikipedia only says "This can create a potentially noticeable 30 Hz flicker" but that isn't very clear and I'm not sure if the flicker is between multiple frames (the color changes once per frame) or within a single frame's interval (the color changes while the overall frame is still being rendered, faster than the monitors default refresh rate), or if both exist. The Wikipedia article is pretty much a stub so I have a last question I've been wondering about, could a +4-bit FRC exist, for example? It's probably a bad idea because of the double flicker but I could see some crazy monitor manufacturer including a "+0/+2/+4" option in their monitors in the future so you can switch between 8-bit, 8-bit+2-bit and 8-bit+4-bit. I also remember seeing something related about that, where the monitor's FRC would leave a pixel 25 or 75% of the time on a color and the rest on another, to reproduce another two shades that are closer to the original two than the one right in the middle that normal FRC produces (a monitor that can only produce colors "0" and "1" could leave a pixel 75% of the time on color "1" to simulate the color "0.75" and so on), but I can't even find the article about that anymore, there isn't a lot about FRC in the internet so I'm asking about it here - and even here, there has only ever been a single post about Monitor FRC. I also remember hearing about "Hi-FRC" but it's really hard to find about it on google too, so I don't even remember what it is. You need to google it with quotes to even get actually related results. Thanks for reading, I hope someone else shares the same doubts as me and that my doubts aren't too dumb. [link] [comments] |
Speed at which an email can be received(continued) Posted: 29 Sep 2020 02:58 PM PDT The only variable that matters in how fast an email goes through is the connection strength of your internet (Assuming all the other moving parts are working correctly)right? So let's say 100 people are sending an email to the same address, wouldn't that delay everyone's email from coming through , as if it was a clogged pipe? Or really, the fastest internet wins and there is no difference in arrival time whether a 100 people are sending it at the same time as you or just you yourself are sending it. Also, an email sent at a certain time will not be stamped as received at that same time, it will be a few seconds later . So let's say I wanted to have an email arrive at noon, the logic would be not to send it at noon but to send let's say 10 seconds before right? [link] [comments] |
Multiple bluetooth connections Android 10? Posted: 29 Sep 2020 11:42 AM PDT Hello, I'm wondering if it is possible to connect multiple bluetooth devices such as smartwatch, speaker and LED system at the same time to one phone and have them all working simultaneously? Google keeps giving me contridicting answers so thought maybe someone can help me on reddit. [link] [comments] |
