Galaxy Tab S6 lite or iPad 8th gen for Drawing

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 03:29 AM PDT

I'm looking for a budget friendly device solely for Drawing purposes. I don't really care about the gaming experience. I've never owned an apple product because of its price but now while I was planning on buying S6 lite tab, I got to know 8th gen iPad comes around the similar price. (Actually a little extra since we need to buy pencil separately) Most of the digital artists I've seen use iPad for Drawing... The YouTube reviewers barely say anything about Drawing while unboxing s6 lite. I just know that for more productivity in iPad, you have to pay even more. Which I can't </3 What should I choose?

What would happen if I travelled back in time to the year 2000 with my iPhone?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 01:05 PM PDT

Let's assume that I have the ability to go back in time and travel to the year 2000 with my modern iPhone (before iPhones were a thing). Having arrived in the year 2000, if I reached for my iPhone, would it largely function? What would work and what wouldn't? Why?

Would things like GPS still function correctly or would the phone be completely useless apart from being able to take photos?

Is there a program I can use to break an image into pixels and then convert the color of each pixel to the closest color in a set of parameters?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:51 PM PDT

Long story short, LEGo released a new series called LEGO Art which is basically like cross stitching with LEGOs. One set is Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe. I want to make my own creation of one of my favorite painting, and I found how to convert it to pixels in photoshop, but there are only so many LEGO piece colors, and I'm wondering if instead of manually guessing at the closest LEGO color that each pixel is, if I can simply use a program that will automatically convert each color into the closest color choice out of a set of parameter colors. Like, for example, If I had Tan, Yellow, and Nougat as LEGO colors and the pixel was peach it would convert to the closest possible color. I don't know if anything like this exists, but it would be nice. I saw a similar post about someone who wanted something similar so they could make Rubik's cube art, but it involved a gradient tool and I don't know if that applies because I'll have multiple colors with similar tinting/shading and I don't want light blue to get turned into light orange since they have the same tone. Sorry if this is long, and many thanks.

Can you record/capture the screens from a pbp/pip monitor simultaneously?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:40 PM PDT

Hi guys, I recently got a pbp monitor that can have 2 screens from 2 different devices on the same monitor. I was wondering if there's any software/extension that can capture/record the screens simultaneously (2 screens at the same time)?

Is there a collection online anywhere of audio recordings from different microphones?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 12:23 PM PDT

I'm trying to test audio quality from different microphones. Instead of manually recording audio from microphones, I wanted to first see if anyone knew of a collection of audio recordings?

Connecting PC Setup to WFH Laptop | X-POST |

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 02:44 PM PDT

    -------------X-POST FROM r/WFH

I guess the title sums it up, I am looking for advice and clarification as to how I could combine my peripherals (keyboard, mouse, and dual monitor setup) without having to unplug/plugin everything twice a day. I was given a USB-C laptop (Carbon X1 Lenovo). Currently, I would like the ability to easily switch my keyboard/mouse without reaching behind my desk. Additionally, an easy way to enable dual monitors for my laptop as well. I don't have problems with changing the input on my monitors manually as long as I don't have to fiddle with cables.

    My proposed solution:

    1. https://www.amazon.ca/Cable-Matters-Monitor-Ethernet-Charging/dp/B07RZ8SNKK?ref_=ast_sto_dp This would be the USB-C solution for dual monitor support. Both of my monitors have multiple hdmi inputs.
    2. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01N6GD9JO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AKXVBT49GGF3B&psc=1 I would then plug in my dock and peripherals to this switch.

In the end, I would only need to press the input button on two of my monitors and press the USB switch. Leaving me to press 3 buttons total rather than adjusting 6+ cables. I would like to avoid intermingling the hdmi cables with an all in one solution as it would be extremely expensive as I don't want to mess with my refresh rates when using my desktop PC off work. Am I missing something here?

EDIT: it turns out the X1 has the ability to connect two external monitors straight to it without sacrificing the charging port, so I'm going for a usb-C to HDMI + HDMI and just connecting those to the monitors in addition to a USB switch for the peripherals. Couldn't find a KVM in my price range that runs dual monitors above 30hz (Big let down for anything gaming/content creation on the home rig).

Any email service that offers hiding subject snippets of new mail in the inbox?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 02:36 PM PDT

Does anyone know of an email service provider that offers the option to hides snippets of new emails in the inbox including hiding the subject as well?

Gmail and other providers like Yandex only have the option to hide the body of the email. I hope there is a service out there that hides both subject and body.

If you’re sending an email, does proximity to the receivers internet dictate how quickly they’ll receive the email? And let’s say multiple are sending an email to the same person at the same time, how does the server choose which email goes through first ?

The gaming mouse I have has 12 buttons on the side. I'm trying to figure out whether I can keybind each of these to open a specific website.

I'm considering buying some that on the product page list up to Windows 7 and 8 and don't mention 10.

Would they likely work on it.

How to store data in text format and then search via it?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:08 AM PDT

I have a system of storing data that just came up. It wasn't planned, it was just comfortable for me. I am trying to improve that system. I am sure something like that is around, but not sure how to look for it.

Basically what I do is I record nouns to start with '@' while verbs start with '#'.

    Like some examples:

    1. @Toyota #car_service #oil_change done for 5000km at $50. Next at 160,000km. 20200927
    2. @Toyota #car_service #brake_pad #rear_right #rear_left at $100. 20200927
    3. #rent @Downtown #2bedroom $3000
    4. #paid @Jack $500 for @office. 20200927

I store data like this in a simple .txt file and search via it later. I would like to bring a structure like group '#oil_change' & '#brake_pad' as a child of '#car_service. recognise date in 'yyyymmdd' and group based on date. When I search, I would like to see the output instead of searching through the file by clicking next.

The '#rent' is info I just got via talking to someone and I stored in case I need in the future.

While I paid petty cash of the company to Jack that I just kept in my personal record. I don't do it often, just stored it in case needed. While I did fill the form for it in the company.

I am not sure if there is any name for the kind of data entry I am doing.

Any info would be great. Any advice to improve my system will be great.
