I'm not able to type on a laptop with complete privacy and it's ruining my life.

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:21 PM PDT

There's something I was supposed to type over a month and a half ago and I got a brand new Lenovo laptop from Best Buy. Something happened where it had to be delayed. My dad inserted something into one of the USB ports and took it back out instantly which enabled him to see everything I type on that laptop from afar without having to ever get physical access to my laptop. So I had to return it to the same Best Buy I got it from. He's done this to multiple laptops of mine in fact, every one of them and I'm curious if getting a laptop from a different brand and a different store will make it more protected.

I'm curious, if I get the same Lenovo laptop I got initially from the same Best Buy, but brand new, so same exact laptop but brand new and I connect it to the WiFi, will my dad be able to see what I type without him having to get physical access to it because he's already compromised the same laptop previously and since it's the same he doesn't need to get any physical access to it? So I learned he can and now I realize I can't type in the house in privacy ever even **if** I ensure he never ever gets physical access to it or gets the password or pin to the laptop, or any passwords I use for the laptop or anything on the laptop, he can just do it via WiFi. Someone knew but wouldn't explain it to me and just said I need to "learn" which I suspect he said because he sides with my dad and what he's doing but the truth is my dad simply wants to see what I type. He doesn't have trust issues with me. It's me who has trust issues with him *because* of this exact thing. Why he did it? He simply has a compulsive desire to see what I type but I don't want to derive from the focus of the post. Anyway, so now you know I can't type on any laptop in the house, because no matter what laptop it is, he can just see what I type even if I make sure he doesn't get any physical access to it. So how do I type without anyone able to see a thing I type? I was supposed to type this thing over a month ago and this is *ridiculously* overdue. And if I buy the same exact Lenovo laptop but brand new from the same Best Buy, connect it to the WiFi and start typing, and he didn't get any physical access to this laptop, will he be able to see what I type from afar just by means of WiFi? Yes he will. Is what I learned. But why? Is it because of WiFi or because the laptop itself is the same as the one he compromised? And if I get a completely different brand new laptop from a completely different brand from a different store, and connect it to the WiFi and start typing and he never physically touched the laptop will he still be able to see everything I type on that laptop from afar despite it being a different brand and from a different store? With all this, if he can see what I type on whatever laptop even if it is different store and brand, how do I type this thing in complete privacy where no one can see? Am I going to have to go to Starbucks and connect to their WiFi and type after I buy a brand new same Lenovo laptop?

I plan to get the same exact Lenovo laptop I got initially but brand new from the same Best Buy. If I do this and connect it to the house WiFi and start typing, will he be able to see what's typed without ever touching the laptop? How do I make it so that I can type on the laptop with complete privacy? I need to type this thing as soon as humanly possible and I'm not going to do it in my house which is my dads house because he can see everything I type and I don't know what to do. I don't know how to type it in private.

Please tell me where to type it so that I can be in complete privacy. Do I have to go to McDonald's or something like that? If I get a different laptop from a different brand from a different store, will that help?

Why does the output of a sound device vary widely by the device it’s connected to?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 10:52 AM PDT

For example, I have a Bluetooth speaker; when it's connected to my phone it can be pretty loud at max volume(both on the speaker and my phone). When it's connected to my laptop, the volume is very low compared to my phone when the laptop and speaker is at max volume.

I got a scam call from some random number and tried to play it off as “Apple Tech Support”

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 04:22 PM PDT

I recently got a call from what it seems to be a robo call claiming "your iCloud has been-attempted multiple times" or something along the lines of that. I never said anything about any of my personal info and logged off from the call. so am I safe? TL:DR Scammer attempted to pass off as tech support, logged off

Looking for an adapter that will allow me to connect 3.5 mm jack to iphone and charge it via usb.

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 08:36 PM PDT

So this is for my car. I have an iphone 8 and a car that is supposed to support usb audio but won't. It will charge via usb but only through the cigarette lighter type port. I have the apple dongle which converts lighting to aux, but I can't figure out how to find one that also has a usb end to charge while audio is fed to my car speakers. Thanks!

(One plus 5) Someone elses voice in my video, afraid of hack

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 07:23 PM PDT

I took a few videos today in my house on my One Plus 5 phone. There is a high pitched whine throughout the video which was not audible to me at the time, and there is a voice towards the end of the video speaking in a foreign language (sounds possibly Indian?). There was nobody else in the room at the time. I took several videos and the voice appears in 2 of the 3 videos and the whine is in all of the videos. Any ideas what this could be?

[Printer] Mysterious straight lines when trying to print pages.

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:25 PM PDT

    Pictures

So, I have an Epson EcoTank ET-2720 (Inkjet type of printer), and I have been using it for around 6 months without any issues. I use sublimation ink in it so that I can print on sublimation papers that can be stamped on T-Shirts (one of the things I offer in my small business).

However, lately, there have been these straight lines when I try to print things. I thought it could be dirty printheads, but I ran several "Deep printhead cleanings," and that didn't work.

Then I thought the next obvious thing: printhead alignment. So I tried running the test, but the page that is printed as the test also has those lines (pictures, again). Usually, those black rectangles would either overlap or have some space between them, so you'd have to choose the pair that was the most aligned. However, as you can see from the image, they are all equally unaligned.

It looks as if a part of the printhead isn't printing correctly because there is still some ink in the gaps; it's just very faint.

Does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong here?

    Thanks a lot, u/lululipes

Is there any way to get seek shortcuts on youtube smaller than 5 seconds?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 03:31 PM PDT

I'm watching a lot of videos in another language atm and I have to scroll back very often to hear missed phrases again. I know about the seek buttons (j = -10s, k = pause l = +10s, <- = -5s, -> = +5s) but the shortest seek time I've found is 5s and this is overkill in most cases. Is there any easy way to scroll around a second? I don't want to be constantly using the mouse and the videos are usually around an hour so this quickly becomes a pain. I'm wondering if there's any way to maybe make custom seek buttons?

    Samsung Note 10 Notifications Setup

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 11:47 AM PDT

This is probably a dumb question. It either can't be done or I'm just to dumb to figure it out but...

I want to set it up on my phone so that I only have a notification sound and pop-up for my Text Messaging app, Facebook and Facebook messaging app. All other apps on my phone I want to have the pop-ups on the notification bar, but I want them to be silent, or at least have a different sound than the three I listed.

I've been flipping through my settings and so far I haven't figured out a way to do it. Any help or confirmation that it can't be done would be vastly appreciated.

Which tablet should I go for ?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 10:22 AM PDT

I've been looking for ages for a decent tablet and I can't decide what to go for . I have a Samsung phone at the minute so I'm used to android now. I don't want to spend a fortune because I'm just gonna use for basic browsing and some light gaming just something I can pick up to do some reading with a nice big screen instead of my smaller phone. I'm stuck between the Samsung tab A, the lenovo m10 plus FHD or the Huawei m5 lite as they're all around the budget I'm looking. Any recommendations ? Which one do you think would be the best bet ? Thanks in advance ☺

    Making Society More Digitally Inclusive

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 05:26 AM PDT

Hey everyone, just collated research in regards to making the world more digitally inclusive and wanted to get some opinions. Expanding digital access is vital and a goal we are pushing towards with our research and with that comes a considerable amount of problems. In order to create a better society it is vital to utilize technological advancements. I wanted to ask for ideas on how technology can be best utilized for this end. What kind of innovations can be made which would benefit communities? (e.g. creating a common database for all citizens to access administrative information).
