Are my parents tracking me through a secret app/cloning my phone? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:04 PM PDT Hi! I don't know where else to turn. This might not be the right subreddit for this issue but I feel like I'm going crazy! I [21F] am currently still living at home (in college) and I have the house to myself for a week. My parents have a security system that has cameras and sound detection. At work today, some of us got sent home early. My parents get mad when I get sent home, and I knew they'd be watching the cameras like a hawk. So I went to campus to catch up on some homework until around the time where I'd have to be going home. As I'm driving, my mom texts me and says "Did you go to work today?" I said, "Yes?" She then says "Did you go to school?" And I said "Yeah I got sent home early, why?" During all of this I noticed that my iPhone's time zone had been changed to central time (I'm eastern). The state that they're in at the moment has central time. It wouldn't switch back to eastern time until I turned my phone off and back on. Then, I looked at the weather app and it was set to the location they were in. Then, hours later, my dad tells me to FaceTime him. I did and both my parents mentioned me "skipping work" even though I didn't. I asked if someone saw me on campus and they said "Don't worry about it. We have connections... eyes everywhere" and laughed. So anyways, can anyone tell me if my phone is bugged or mirrored?? I tried searching on the internet for hours to find information about this but I've found nothing at all. My phone doesn't have any of the other "tell tale signs" of being cloned either. If anyone knows a different sub that might be helpful please let me know. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Sep 2020 03:29 AM PDT sometimes when i'm watching any media on the internet, even playing games in my computer, the sounds increases dramatically, but when i turn the volume down, it returns to it's original volume. Please help, thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Sep 2020 01:51 AM PDT I want to printscreen my phone, which is not a screenshot. A printscreen is an exact copy of the pixels that made up your screen at the time it was made. A screenshot for some reason does not seem to do this 100% of the time. Is there an android app to achieve a printscreen? [link] [comments] |
Does airdrop notify Apple Watch? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:47 PM PDT So let's say someone has an iPhone that is connected to their Apple Watch. If that person were to airdrop photos to another phone, would their Apple Watch notify them about all this happening, or just ignore it? [link] [comments] |

Give Website a null credit card number? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 04:54 PM PDT I'm not trying to steal... Some times websites do not allow you to delete your payment info. I fell for the trap that is Motley Fool a few years back, and there being a pain... I just want to remove my payment information but they won't let me... Can I give the website a bogus number that's not anyone else's. Im not trying to screw anyone else or commit credit card fraud.. I just want them to stop having access to my payment info. Security precautions for anti-cheating software Proctor.io? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 02:18 PM PDT Hello everyone, A couple of my college classes are requiring the download and use of anti-cheating software Proctor.io for exams, but I've heard through the grapevine that it has major security issues. What should I know about it before downloading? What should I do to prevent it having unintended effects on my laptop or invading my privacy? (More than it already does) Thank you very much. Honorlock: Complete privacy-invasive malware disguised as a "Cheat-proof Online Proctoring Service" Posted: 04 Sep 2020 07:38 AM PDT At my college, the majority of classes have gone completely online, and with that raised professors' doubt on students' academic integrity while taking online exams. While most professors have taken the obvious approach of keeping testing times short enough for cheaters to not have enough time to search the answers but long enough for honest students to be able to answer them, some professors in several different colleges and universities have been relying on a new Chrome extension called Honorlock. This service which is clearly a malware promises a cheat-free testing experience for students by
As far as I know, we have programs called anti-viruses that block malware like these. My main question is, am I (and the cumulatively thousands of other students who have written unsatisfied reviews on the extension and the company itself) being too paranoid, or is this service justifiable? Is there any good (free or paid) male to female voice changer software out there? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 06:52 PM PDT Been interested in streaming or making videos and wanted to try changing my voice to a more female voice. Was wondering if there's any good software out there that can do that? Everything I've found so far is quite far from sounding convincing that it's a female and not a male speaking. Ideally would be best to have it turn from male to female as I talk, but would be willing to settle for post recording too. [link] [comments] |
Question about divorcing Apple Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:58 AM PDT For many reasons, Apple has become a pain in my ass no longer worth the trouble. Admittedly, I am not well versed technologically, and am okay with that. I have a lot of movies and music purchased on iTunes currently in my cloud. I'd like to:

Is my instagram account at risk? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 12:19 PM PDT I just got a notification on my phone a little while ago that said I got a dm from someone (Dont remember the acct name) so I click on the notification and all the dm says is "Hi there 🙇♀️". I dont recognize the person's username and they dont have a profile pic so I click on their account, they dont have any posts and they are not following anyone. It said they had one follower so I clicked to see who it was (thinking it could be a friend) then I get a pop up on Instagram that says "can not get this information right now". Then my app force quit itself, I go to my DM's and the message is gone. Then my phone started to become "choppy", Could I have been hacked or am I ok? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 05:48 PM PDT I've opened up my Dell XPS 15 9570 a few times now to repaste the chip dies, to upgrade the ram, and to swap out the internal storage, but I've never managed to figure out what this funny little exposed chip is. I've seen this on regular motherboards too. What is it? And should I put a thermal pad over it? (Flickr link: https://flic.kr/p/2jDqNi4) Thanks EDIT: the computer shown is not mine, it is a public domain image taken from the internet. It is solely used for demonstration and education purposes only. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:31 AM PDT I have a windows machine that broke for unknown reasons and I have been unable to fix it. So I pulled out the hard drive so I might find another use for it. My question is, is it worth keeping with the Windows OS on it incase I need it for a future computer or should I just reformat and use it as an external hard drive? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Sep 2020 08:50 AM PDT I consider myself knowledgeable or at least resourceful when it comes to IT matters. I do not have much knowledge when it comes to security and intrusion prevention though. Recently, I heard that a vendor was attacked by a "Cybercriminal" with "Ransomware" and user data was "stolen". The vendor was forced to pay the ransom and the "Cybercriminal" assured them the data would be destroyed. What does that even mean? "Cybercriminal"? There is no one person sitting in a dark room banging at a keyboard to break in... How does that even happen? How does a corporate level network which (should) have a shit-ton of safeguards in place get their "secured" machines intruded on and data taken? Like I mean, what is the actual process human and computer related that these "Cybercriminals" are using to get on these systems? Are they tricking someone to install software for them? Phishing emails? Do these corporations not have the basic safe guards all networks should have? I don't think there is a person or persons sitting in a dark room somewhere typing furiously to "hack" into these systems, so how does it happen?? How does anything like this happen in 2020? How does Grandma still manage to get her PC infected when all she does is play solitaire and look up recipes? Even if she clicks on junk links, a webpage is not going to open your PC wide open for some cyber Ne'er-do-well to control. How does this happen? [link] [comments] |
