    Mesh Network

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 10:00 PM PDT

I'm moving out to a granny flat with seperate power, the internet gets no where close to reaching. Currently using a passthrough adapter which doesn't work in my new place. I'm thinking about getting a Netgear Nighthawk MK63 mesh network three pack.

Now, my modem is at the front of my house. Will the mesh network carry from the front to the back of the through the satellites? I'm a bit iffy on spending $650 AUD on it for it not to work

Is there technology that can scan and measure things?

Like, if I were to scan a couch, is there an existing technology that can get me the precise measurements of the couch?

No internet connection on a shared wifi.

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 05:25 PM PDT

My new appartment offer paid wifi. To connect the first time i had to give my ip adress when connecting. Then i restart my pc and it does t work anymore. I have also a new ip adress. Ive said it to landlord and he ask for my new ip adress to give me acces again. In 2 days it happen twice. What can be going wrong? Ive tried setting a fixed ip but still nothing. I might have done it wrong because as soon as i close the window, a troubleshooting window appear and ask to change back to dhcp. How can i make sure i had the right subnet mask , domain or dns server? Ive been using the ipconfig /all command to find those while being connected with no internet access.

Is it possible to block certain email security signatures?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 02:03 PM PDT

I have been getting assaulted with a lot of different spam emails that somehow manage to get through the gmail spam filters again and again. It doesn't ever work to just report them as I get another email a few days later that goes through. They all have the same kind of security signatures, though, coming from "sendgrid.net" or "sendgrid.info", which I cannot find any talk of this sort of spam through searching. I know there is the service SendGrid, but that is a .com domain. So, is there a way I can block these emails by blocking the signature, or am I doomed to just have my mail spammed with this junk?

Affordable Large Format Color Laser Printer? (11x17, 18x24?)

    Posted: 11 Jul 2020 01:23 AM PDT

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a relatively affordable large format laser printer w/ color, ideally that can do up to 18x24 paper. I'm seeing all kinds of prices and I'm just looking for the most economical solution to start with. Anything over 20+ PPM would be great. More is better, but that's a nice starting point IMO.

I'm not familiar with laser printers, but I'm hearing that high yield black and white at "5%" quality (whatever that means) can yield WELL over 2,000 prints, or more like 2500+. Another thing that would be great is decent paper capacity and not having to load more paper in every 5 minutes.

Overall, I'm just looking for the best overall bang for my buck with best possible speed, paper capacity and so on for the price. Thank you!

I want to add 8gb of ram to the stock 8gb stick that came with my Dell Inspiron 7567. Can I get away with it?

    Posted: 11 Jul 2020 01:03 AM PDT

I'm getting a lot of conflicting advice about this. I know it has to be the same type. I know it has to be the same memory size. I'm wondering if I can get away with buying one stick from Kingston and being fine. I tried to find out what the RAM stick installed is, and there's no info on it. The stick itself is unlabeled. Can I get away with buying one stick and adding it to the one I have or is it a clear must for me to buy two and replace the one with both of these sticks?

Edit: I just found out Dell sells RAM. Buying one of theirs (from Dell's website) costs more than buying two sticks from Kingston, and finding the right model of RAM stick from Dell on Amazon shows a Dell certificate on a RAM stick labeled Kingston, which isn't shown on their website. I am so confused.

I think a better question would be: To anyone that owns a Dell Inspiron 7567, or anyone that has ever attempted to upgrade their computer's built-in stock memory using a single extra RAM stick? Would you recommend it?

    I have a stupid question...

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 06:35 PM PDT

So at work they suggested we put our work emails on our phones for all the time access. So I did. I get emails from big time clients. Is there anyway the company/email correspondents can view what's on my phone, what i search, or texts?

Is there a reliable tool to "convert" (combo) key presses into different ones? E.g. Shift+W into # ?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 03:55 PM PDT

That might now sound stupid in the first place but my older keyboard finally died and I got a new one a while ago and didn't watched out for a feature that I really liked on it. Being able to re-bind keys with the software from the manufacturer.

Currently I wanted to play a new game but the possibilites to re-bind keys are heavily limited. (Can't bind keys to combos.. wtf?) Back then, I then simply used to keyboard software.

However, most software I know about only allows to rebind "one by one" e.g. A to E. But not a combo (or I'm just too stupid). I would like to have a software that covers all 3 additional "main" keys. (ctrl, shift and alt).

So, as example. When I press shift+W I want the software to tell my PC that I actually pressed e.g. Numpad 8 instead of capital W. Does that make sense?

    Thanks

    Preferably under 30"

In store (JB Hi-Fi, etc) is preferred over online

Good quality but not too amazing because price

TV Show CCTV: What do the numbers mean?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 10:42 AM PDT

I was watching a murder mystery show when I noticed the morgue had a camera on the dead body. The monitor showed a series of numbers, I was wondering what the numbers meant.

https://imgur.com/a/E3VgURk (the dead body's been cropped out)

If you don't want to click through:

    Dome: 01
    333. 9. 050. 5

I read a bunch of CCTV manuals and couldn't find anything on the second row. I figure 01 stands for the channel, and Dome is the sort of camera like indoors.

Pinboard.in archiving price increase: is it worth keeping anymore?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 10:21 AM PDT

Not sure where to bring this up, the pinboard sub seems to be dead.

I need to decide this month whether to renew my Pinboard archiving subscription or not. That's where the pages you bookmark are stored on the Pinboard server, so if the page goes offline you can look at a cached copy. The annual cost (unless you pay multiple years ahead) has jumped to $39 from $25. That's a 56% increase, during a pandemic. It's not a huge amount dollar wise but it's making me think about whether it's really necessary anymore.

I can save pages as web archive files very easily now on my iPad and/or in iCloud. Is there still a good reason to pay Pinboard to do it? It's a nice back-up in case a page disappears that you really need. But if it's that important a page, I could just save it to my iPad to begin with. I won't lose my basic bookmarking account because I'm grandfathered in. And if I start using Safari bookmarks instead, they sync. Delicious and then Pinboard were game changers for me back when I was using a pc. But things have changed with the iPad.

    Is there something I'm missing?

I tried emailing it but the file is too large, I don't want to cut it up either.

Router - ethernet cable vs Modem ethernet cable

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 07:32 AM PDT

    Extremely stupid question:

Will running an ethernet cable from my router (which has an ethernet cable connected from the modem) give me significant improvement on speeds vs the wireless connection.

I cant recall if I NEED to have a line directly from the modem to the computer to get the improvements I'm seeking instead of just having any wired connection

What are the risks of Blockchain?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 04:20 AM PDT

First of all, I have only just started looking into this today, so I apologise for being so green on it. On the surface it looks great. I understand that blocks can't be tampered with as the hash on the previous block will not reach a consensus with all the others on the blockchain so will be rejected. With so many people creating their own blockchains, is it possible that whoever develops the blockchain can have like a 51% ownership of it, and tamper with blocks and have their majority of nodes forcibly agree that the tampered blocks are consented, thus making the rest of the blockchain have tampered blocks agreed with without their knowledge?
