    How to block internet programatically?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 09:21 PM PDT

I want to block my home internet without turning off the router. How do I do that ? End result should be that only my laptop can enable internet access again for all devices in the house.

Can you install a radiator at the back of a pc?

I have looked up a lot of builds with radiators but most of them are at the front and top of the pc. Is there any downsides of installing one at the back of a pc

    DNS over HTTPS?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 10:53 AM PDT

    Hey y'all,

Trying to set up DNS over HTTPS with Cloudflare. I changed my router settings and Internet Protocol Version 4 settings to primary Cloudflare and secondary Google DNS.

Here is the debug information. Resolver IP working but not connected to 1.1.1.1.

This is as far as my knowledge extends, so thanks for your patience and help!

    Destroyed laptop software

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 01:05 AM PDT

    Intro:

I was trying to download linux on a old PC (Lenovo G530 with 32-bit system type) from windows 7 because I use torrent and felt it wasn't safe to use windows 7 anymore since windows is dropping it.

I then used MX linux but felt the community empty.

Since ubuntu has dropped support for 32-bit and I was about to be a new user in linux, I thought linux mint was the solution (because ChrisTitusTip was saying it was good)

    Problem:

But the installation failed, so I took out the USB drive and rebooted my PC. And my PC only shows a blinking curser ( _ ) and my keyboard doesn't work. So I thought, " Hey, maybe if I use another distro , it will work ". I open my bios (phoenix bios) , put usb hdd to the top of order , and reboot the system but it shows

    "SYSLINUX 6.03 EDD 2014-10-06 COPYRIGHT (C) 1994-2014 H.PETER ANVIN ET AL"

    Not really needed:

And it would be helpful if you tell me the name for this type of problem. I plan on making a thread with ALL the problems that could occur when installing linux.

I really need this pc cause I do all my things in here (online courses, social life, books, movies) and don't really have money to buy anything else.Even this was posted from my friend's mobile.

Any suggestions would be of great help.

    Thank you

    Hi guys

I am a marketing guy with very basic knowledge on technology related services.

I want to understand Azure managed services, Cloud adoption framework and Azure kubernetes services.

If you guys can help me with links where I can learn the basics of these technologies would be helpful.

Very important - if you can send me links where a layman can also understand these technologies would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

Does Google forbid the use of VPN?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 11:26 PM PDT

    Hello!

Is it safe to use a VPN (on Windows) with Chrome while logged into a Google account, and using Google services such as Gmail and YouTube? In other words, does Google forbid in any way, shape or form the use of a VPN through their services?

I apologize if this seems like a naive question, but having heard a few scary stories of people losing access to their entire Google account all of a sudden for various reasons (none of which involved the use of a VPN in those that I came across though), I'd rather make sure using a VPN is completely safe.

Thank you so much for reading!

    When are IP addresses logged?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 11:06 PM PDT

Curious since I frequently keep the same tab open for weeks on end and am also constantly opening and closing the same tabs.

So if I'm not wrong, IP addresses are logged whenever you visit a website. And that IP address is linked to your account if you choose to log in to the site. So are IP addresses logged if you stayed logged into the site? Is it logged every time you open up the website even if you're logged in? What if you keep the tab open — is the IP address logged every x amount of time, or does the tab go "inactive" after a while, and if you go back on the tab, the IP address is logged?

    Livestream issues with WiFi

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 10:33 PM PDT

I'm having a strange issue. General youtube videos work fine across all my devices.

However, when I'm doing a livestream on insta or FB, WiFi really suffers with lot of stuttering and pauses on all devices. It's annoying because it works fine on my 4g data connection, which has a lower speed/bandwidth but is able to hold a livestream better.

What could be the issue with my WiFi that's causing this? Is it a router thing? I have a huawei router, provided by my ISP. Should I speak to my ISP?

Complete boomer here - How exactly do different monitors affect my gaming/streaming experience?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 07:50 AM PDT

I know nothing about technology. I want to stream gameplay on twitch as a hobby since I have a lot more freetime due to COVID-19.

Can someone explain to me what I should be looking for in a monitor and why? I just want to educate myself so I can make an informed decision on a purchase.

Computer Novice Here - Is there any way to stop games from Hijacking your Mouse.

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 11:27 AM PDT

I'm not that well versed on the different ways computers handle software and hardware, but I'm looking for a way to stop shooter games - like Overwatch or Rainbow 6 Siege - from forcing your mouse to center on screen.

Some Fps games hijack your mouse and reset it to the middle of the screen ever frame. I'm trying to find a software, registry edit, program, or privilege to give or rescind to disallow either that specific application - or in general - from taking control of the mouse during play.

Essentially letting the mouse drift around - and in some cases off - the screen freely as used to happen in older games that had trouble confining mice.

    Thanks in advance!

Help Locating a Specific Sort of Gaming Device

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 03:40 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I'm hoping you might assist me in locating a gaming device to fit a certain kind of niche. I'm looking for something not unlike a Nintendo Switch Lite, only with support for [Moonlight](https://github.com/moonlight-stream/). I am aware that the Switch can boot Android, and there is an Android version of Moonlight, but as I understand it, the implementation is flawed due to lack of hardware-accelerated video - not to mention, I prefer one device for one purpose, and my Switch is already packed to the brim with games.

I'm an older gamer, and most of what I play these days isn't exactly reliant on having a high framerate - adventure games, visual novels, that kinda thing. I was using a modded Vita for a while to achieve this, and it mostly worked quite well. However the wifi on the Vita is dated and it became an impediment. This got me thinking about my ideal device.

So as you can probably ascertain from the above, certain things are more important than others. It's important it run either a Moonlight client, the Nvida gamestream client, or possibly Steam's new(ish) local streaming service. It's important it have a screen and a controller embedded on the device. It really doesn't need much in the way of local storage, and I doubt it would need a high clock speed or large amounts of memory. It is, however, important that it's wireless be more modern - I would like at least 802.11n support.

    Bonus fake internet points for:

    A larger screen (ala Switch)

    OLED screen (ala Vita)

Anything that will let me create a console-like experience (perhaps loading the streaming app directly on boot)

A full gamepad included R2/L2 button

    Decent battery life

    A headphone jack

Thanks in advance for any assistance. And yes, I'm aware I'm probably asking for far too much from one device - I aim only to get as close as I can, and I simply haven't the experience with more modern gadgets to know which way to point myself.

Why are online multiplayer games unplayable? I get ping of up to the thousands.

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 06:14 PM PDT

For some reason any game that I try to play (Valorant, Titanfall 2, COD MW, etc) gives me extremely high ping. The games are practically unplayable because of my connection issues, and I cant play a game without getting kicked a few minutes in. I've taken internet speed tests and I consistently get download speeds of 70 - 100Mbps.

I can stream videos and browse the web perfectly fine. I can even play multiplayer flash games fine. For some reason I just cant play games that I've downloaded onto my PC. I dont know exactly what it means, but when I open up command center and ping google with a game running in the background, I keep getting request timed out and ping in the thousands. Any advice?

A screen that looks like a canvas?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 10:46 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some sort of technology that is either:
-A screen that feels like a canvas
-A film to put on a screen to make it feel like a canvas.

I'm working for a museum right now, and they want to showcase some art on a screen, where the user can switch which art he wants to see with a button. However, it shouldn't look teach heavy or digital, but re-create as much as possible the feel of looking at a real canvas.

I'm thinking of a screen not emitting any light, or some screens similar to what is used for kindles. I'm not even sure something exists.
I have saw something called e-ink, but it seems it's not available in colours yet.
If anyone have any recommendations or any keywords I can look into, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Force install of current/more recent Android on old device?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 03:57 PM PDT

I have an old high-end audio device that won't update past a several-years-old version of Android. It's become sort of a project for me to see if there's a way I can install a newer (not necessarily newest) version of Android on it, by whatever means (I already went the route of force installing old versions of apps, and ran into issues there). Keep in mind 'just buy a new device'-type comments aren't really what I'm looking for - already know that is an option but that's not on the table, for now.

I have read around quite a bit and tried or evaluated some methods. But wondering if anyone has successfully done this, how they did it, if it's even theoretically do-able. I know it may not run well, etc, just wondering if it's even possible in the first place, and if someone could point me to some reading they found valuable on it.

If at all possible, since this is Reddit, please try to refrain from snarky unhelpful responses. Thanks!

So I have a Dell ay410 speaker (Dell 2.1 multimedia speaker system) for my pc, and I noticed there is two aux plugins in the headphone adapter part, and I don't know what the other aux plugin hole is (not the headphone jack) does anyone know what the other aux plugin hole is? The symbol next to the hole looks like a circle and a horizontal line halfway into the circle on the left of the circle.
