How do I connect to router through ethernet ports built into home

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 03:25 PM PDT

I am trying to hardwire internet to my pc instead of using wireless. The router is in the living room and my pc is in my bedroom. My house already has ethernet ports run throughout the house including into my room.

    My current set up is:
Router --> ethernet port (living room)

    ethernet port(bedroom) --> Pc

but I think I am missing something. I found the networking box( https://imgur.com/6ur8EU8 ) but I have no idea what I'm looking at and nothing is labelled.

    Any help is appreciated.

KVM Switch for MacbookPro+PC - 2-4 Monitor setup

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 03:52 AM PDT

    Hi there!

I'm looking for a KVM switch for the following setup

    • - 2x monitors DELL U2715H (HDMI & DP) 2560x1440p 60Hz both
    • Windows 10 Desktop PC (with HDMI, USB-C, DP ports)
    • 13'' Macbook Pro (touchbar, 2018), MacOS 10.14.6 (does not support MST) with HDMI/miniDP adaptor
    • 2x portable, USB-C external monitors (Vinpok Split).

I would like to be able to switch between using the DELL dual monitor setup across my two computers in any possible configuration (both DELL monitors on one computer + one per computer) as well as have a shared mouse and keyboard.

I would also love to be able to connect my two external USB-C monitors on top of that setup to extend my above mentioned configurations even more if needed. Not sure if those could also work as external peripherals plugged in directly to each of my computers, hence no need to go over the KVM switch too?

In my workflow I need to hop between both mac and PC and I use programs that are more comfortable in extended monitor setups.

Could you please advise me which KVM switch would be suitable for my case?

    Thanks in advance

Anyone have any idea what this actually is?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 09:31 PM PDT

Hi all, so I recently acquired what I was told was "a display unit from a toys r us" for 5 bucks, the only issue is that I'm not sure how it actually works. If possible I'd like to hook a raspberry pi up to it, although it's insides look complicated. It's some kind of 32 inch advertising display.

EDIT: After opening the back panel, it seems to have a magmeet mlt666t powersupply and some kind of unidentified board with samsung flash chips all over it: https://imgur.com/NflP96W

We have a granny flat about 30m from our main house. We are using it as a movie room and want to be able to stream Netflix and other services down there. The wifi nearly reaches, but not quite. Any suggestions?

Is it true that the TP-Link AC1750 WiFi extender continuously needs to unplugged and plugged back in, in order to regain signal?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 12:26 AM PDT

I'd like to know if this is a problem because I may not end up purchasing it from amazon if it is a problem with the product. Does the AC2600 WiFi extender model have this problem or similar problems? If anyone has either of these extenders have you ever faced any problems with them?

    Wildlife Live Streaming

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 07:51 PM PDT

I am looking for suggestions on setting up a few cameras for outdoor live streaming of wildlife for a family business. They are wanting customers to be able to access the cams from the website.

These cameras would be a good distance away from a router so I'm thinking possibly 4g capable or some other solution.

Also they would need to be weatherproof with night vision capability.

Any suggestions or a point in the right direction is appreciated.

    Remote Setup for Multiple TV’s

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 07:35 PM PDT

I just installed 3 TV's in my game room (2 vizio's and 1 LG) and the remote for each of them controls all of them. How do I best address this problem? Is there a way to program each remote to only correspond to one of the TV's?

I'm open to any and all recommendations/suggestions

What do you want to see in a game console?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 12:47 PM PDT

Also, conversely, what would you be willing to give up in a console to get what you want.

E.g.: A console that you can mod and put homebrew on, but you'd be paying more for it than a "locked down" console.

Help with the internet on PC

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 12:36 PM PDT

I have an issue with internet on my PC, with both cable and WiFi adapter. It's loading everything slowly, needs about 2 minutes to start working when I start my PC. On the other hand phones connect just fine and have no issues whatsoever. I've tried reinstalling drivers and various other stuff that I found on the internet, nothing seems to work and I just can't figure what's the issue. Is the lab chipset on MB faulty? Or should I just smash my router...this is getting extremely frustrating. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

What's the difference between display size and screen size?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 12:03 PM PDT

I recently ordered a 15" laptop (dell xps 15) expecting the screen size to be 15". I measured it horizontally with a ruler and it only came to 14". I rechecked the website and it says that, because of the beveled design, they're able to fit a 15.6" display into a smaller laptop. How is that possible? Can someone please explain why 15" laptops aren't actually 15"? Thank you. (I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I can't find an answer on google)

HC-05 Bluetooth module stuck in slave loop role (loopback)

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 11:31 AM PDT

    Hello everyone!

I recently got my HC-05 Bluetooth Module, and everything command in AT Mode was working (changing name, password, and role), I then accidentally entered slave loop mode (AT+ROLE=2), I can't seem to get out of it! Every AT command I send just gets echoed back. I tried AT+RESET, and AT+ORGL, and they just get returned back in the serial monitor, I tried changing the role using AT+ROLE=0 and it just got echoed back!

    Please help!

If I create a Hotspot with my phone so other devices can connect to each other through WiFi, does it consume Internet data?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 08:31 AM PDT

I connect my laptop (with linux) with my tablet (with Android) through a hotspot made with my phone when I don't have WiFi access via KDEconnect but usually for really small files, but I don't know if this consume internet data usage since I'm not connected to the internet but to my devices and maybe it would be cool to know if I want to transfer larger files from a device to the other.

PROJECTOR : Image swaps once HDMI is selected

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 08:10 AM PDT

My new projector is mounted to the ceiling upside down. I can swap the image under settings and it stays that way when I mirror. But I'd like to use HDMI to have better image quality. As soon as I select HDMI as my input method it swaps the image upside down. Is there something I can do apart from buying a new mount that allows me to attach the projector not upside down?

    Thank you
