Difference between Thunderbolt and MiniDisplayport? (What is the thunderbolt signal) Posted: 02 Apr 2020 11:47 PM PDT So I know they are basically identical in shape and functionality making them alternatives to eachother. However when I try find the actual difference (apart from Thunderbolt being apple branded) all I get is that "Thunderbolt also carries the niche thunderbolt signal capabilities). So.. what is the thunderbolt signal? What does it do, why would someone want it? Edit: now that I look into it more, I'm finding conflicting info about whether or not they're truly alternatives or if only Thundebolt can be used in MiniDisplayport ports (and not vice versa). Can someone please clarify? [link] [comments] |
Will my 550w PSU support a 2070? Posted: 03 Apr 2020 04:04 AM PDT I currently have an overclocked1060 3gb but I'd like to have a gpu that matches the potential of my cpu. I have a modest cpu OC of 4.5ghz constant (I edit/ export video a lot) and have my RAM in XMP to reach 3200mhz. The parts picker estimates 440w but this doesnt take OC into consideration. This is the proposed upgrade: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sZbxtp Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Can a wifi access point work as an acess point for optic fiber? Posted: 02 Apr 2020 10:07 PM PDT Hello everyone, hope you're doing all well. I've just switched recently from normal wifi 12mb/s to an optic fiber of 100mb/s, now the problem is that the signal is insanely bad at my room, and definitely can't use it, before when I had the normal wifi i used to have an access point at my room that i connect to my laptop via ethernet, my question now is can I use the same access point (TP LINK) as an acess point to the new optic fiber (NOKIA) ? and how can i learn how to configure it Thank you so much for reading enjoy your day [link] [comments] |
Why do I receive so many weird friend requests on Facebook? Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:49 PM PDT I'm sorry if this isn't the best sub to post in but it was the best I could think of. Also sorry for bad English, it's not my native language. About two weeks ago I got a message that said I had I virus on my phone, I thought nothing about and just clicked away it as it seemed like a fake message. The next day I started receiving a LOT of friend requests on Facebook from people who seemed to have a connection to each other's. I do not know these people but they all live in the same town as me and they are all from a minority group. Is there a way to stop getting weird friend requests? Am I being hacked? Thanks. Posted: 02 Apr 2020 10:36 PM PDT I was thinking about all the old devices like Nintendo DSs and PSPs that could browse the web, and how slow they were because they had crummy NIC/WiFi chips and they still are probably slow to this day even with better router technology. Why can't someone make a NIC chip with a limit of 4 teraB/s capability so we don't have to come out with new chips whenever the ISP data speed gets better [link] [comments] |
Broadcasting my phone to a small TV without WiFi Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:01 PM PDT I live on a coast guard boat and don't have WiFi but have a small TV in my rack that I connect my Nintendo switch to. I want to watch my movies I download on my phone (Google pixel 4xl) on the TV. Is there any way I can do this? There is a local network on the boat that my phone can connect to and it opens the broadcasting option. Could I get a Roku or something and cast to that? [link] [comments] |
Best device to wirelessly screenshare in courtroom setting Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:30 AM PDT I'm a practicing attorney, and as such, I regularly need to present pictures and video as evidence. Most of the courtrooms in the city I practice are set up for me to just plug my laptop in at counsel table - but not all. Moreover, when I go out to rural counties, integrated technology is sparse. Showing up with stacks of color photos is a big pain in the ass, so I'd like to avoid it. I'd also like to avoid lugging a portable projector and screen with me, because that feels kind of 2005. Ideally, I'd envision a scenario like this: I have my laptop at the podium. I have tablets to which I can mirror my screen to. I give one tablet to the judge, one to the witness, and one to opposing counsel. Then I just share all of my visual evidence to those screens as I go through questioning. Basically, a typical "nice courthouse" setup that I could take with me in a box when I'm in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure there are multiple ways to accomplish this, but I'm not sure what the most practical is. Really what I'm looking for here is the most low-cost way to make this happen. Although, to be honest, my practice is fortunate enough that cost isn't really a barrier... but I'd rather not just buy five laptops when all I really need are screens I can wirelessly screenshare with. I recognize this is kind of a niche usage scenario, so maybe the product I'm envisioning doesn't actually exist. Maybe there's an app I could load on to a bunch of ipads or old generation MS Surfaces to make this happen? Any suggestions? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:50 PM PDT I build lamps. I'm looking for something I can build into a lamp that plays an audio sample every time the lamp is turned on. Kind of like the stuffed animals that talk whenever you press the button on their palm. Any help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Looking for Information on Boosting WiFi in Rural Area Posted: 02 Apr 2020 01:06 PM PDT My brother's house is across the road from mine 200-250 ft away. He is currently getting fiber optic internet cable installed at speed options of 100 megabits/s or 1 gigabit/s. Unfortunately, I live in an energy regulated area and I'm on different power company, so they can't/won't run cable to my house nor can I change power companies. I would really like to be able to stream videos and game from my house 200-250 feet away from the source. Is there any way to boost his WiFi to achieve that? There is a road and a few large trees between his house and mine, but it isn't heavily wooded. My knowledge on all of this is pretty limited, so any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
My bluetooth headphones and Xbox One controller are not working together. Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:55 PM PDT Hey. I have a little USB bluetooth device exacly like this one https://imgur.com/4ntAotW that I use on my PC. I don't know its origination, but it works very well with my JBL T450BT and my JBL Tune 500 (I use each one per time, when one is charging, I'm using the other one.). A few months ago I bought a Xbox One bluetooth controller, and tried to use it on my PC, it works very well, but the headphones, doesn't matter which one I'm using, starts to scretch and the sound goes crazy, a lot of interference and I can't hear anything. It doesn't happen just when I start a game, the headphone starts to scretch the time I connect the controller on PC. These are the specifications of the USB bluetooth device: And if you want to visit the site I bought it - https://www.kabum.com.br/cgi-local/site/produtos/descricao_ofertas.cgi?codigo=60147&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmpb0BRCBARIsAG7y4zaRGuqRh1W_DAXHc6hXNHBl9m7YsSZw_RW_XDYS1D8sndrt8jigvkgaAneHEALw_wcB Characteristics:

I was scanning for subdomains for fun and one of them used apache. Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:07 PM PDT I also know that slowloris, a dos application, works with apache. Because this is a subdomain, theoretically, if i do a slowloris attack on it, would the main web server go down? [link] [comments] |
Can your employer track what you do on an external monitor? Posted: 02 Apr 2020 02:17 PM PDT I have an external monitor at my house that was provided by my employer. I know this sounds crazy, but can my employer track what I look at on the external screen if I hook it up to a personal computer? Will they be able to tell if I use it to play video games? Dell Inspiron 1564 BLACK SCREEN after DELL LOGO and WINDOWS LOGO Posted: 02 Apr 2020 11:44 AM PDT Here I am again with yet another computer question. Short overview of my Inspiron: From around 2010. Shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, upgraded to Windows 10 Home 64-bit recently. Specifications: Intel Core i3-330M, integrated Intel HD graphics, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, and a Toshiba 320GB hard drive. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 on the factory hard drive, I thought it would be nice to have another hard drive with Windows 7 on it... That hard drive is a Hitachi 60GB from March of 2007. Came from an old Dell Latitude D620 that I upgraded for a family member. I got Windows 7 installed on the 60GB drive from the original re-installation discs that came with the laptop, and the drivers from the included driver disc. Well, after re-booting the laptop, the Dell logo came up, and then the Windows 7 animated logo. In between the two, I noticed the screen would flash a couple times before showing Windows 7 logo. Then after that, screen goes blank. I hear the windows startup sound, and the screen is still blank. Since I only have one account set up, I typed the password in and pressed enter, waiting in silence. Then, I hear the login sound. Windows is up and running, but the display it not. What could be wrong here? Connecting to an external display does not show any results. [link] [comments] |
What is a Nintendo 3DS charger actually called? Posted: 02 Apr 2020 07:54 AM PDT This might sound like a stupid question. I've always wondered this because I've never seen that type used in anything else. Is it made exclusively by Nintendo or is it just generally not used [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Apr 2020 07:10 AM PDT So I am currently in the UK (american citizen) and while i am over here for an undetermined amount of time I want to get a VPN. Two questions: 1. If I get a VPN should I install it on the router because we want to use it on the playstation console as well as the separate tv that has a firestick? 2. If I do install it on the router and for example, log into my american netflix account, will I then only be able to see that or will be I also be able to use the UK netflix we have as well? Sorry if that is a ridiculous question! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Apr 2020 10:24 AM PDT Looking for recommendations on a minimalist fitness tracker. When I say minimalist I am referring to design. I wear a watch on a daily basis so I am looking for a fitness tracker that is screenless if possible. In the past I had a Jawbone UP24 and it was perfect, sadly that company is out of business so the systems are no longer supported. Any recommendations would be awesome, I am open to a wrist band/bracelet or clip or ring providing the cost is >$200 Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Adapting mmcx to 2pin 0.75mm audio connection. Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:44 AM PDT Hey all, so I've got a problem in my current project. Last year I built some custom in ear monitors and decided to use a 2 pin 0.75mm connection between the wire and the earbuds (since I already had a couple wires from some old headphones). Now I want to try them out true wireless, since doing true wireless DIY is still very expensive I want to go with a premade set, after going through the pros and cons of the 3 major options (trn b20s, FiiO UTWS1, frostex) I've decided the FiiO UTWS1 is the best price to performance BUT they only come in mmcx. I've found converters on a shady website for $25 a pop which seems pretty unreasonable for what it is. Anyone know any alternatives? I want to avoid having to rewire the IEMs since I'd need to find a new shell for them to fit the mmcx connector. And want to avoid cutting and soldering the 2pin directly on the UTWS1 since a replacement would take at least a month to reorder and I want to keep the mmcx option open for future projects. Just comment any thoughts or questions, I should be pretty quick to reply. [link] [comments] |
