Tech Support - I’m currently building my first computer. I have about $100-$120 should I go SATA 3 SSD or an M.2? If it helps I’m using a msi B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard. I’m new to this, sorry if this is a silly question.

"Hmm, something went wrong. We couldn't load WeTransfer – you appear to be blocked"

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:49 AM PST

If you receive this message when attempting to transfer files via WeTransfer, don't panic. You just need to contact WeTransfer via their online helpline.

After contacting them, I received the following message:

'As we're running an online file sharing platform which can be used by anyone, we need to take preventative measures for users abusing our service. We aim to block malicious IP addresses that spam unsuspecting email recipients with malicious transfers. Since IP addresses are often recycled and reused, it's likely that the IP address you're connected to now was previously used by a spambot. To prevent that IP from misusing our service, we blocked the address at the time of discovering their abuse of our platform.

'Please don't worry, I have unblocked your IP address from our blocking list. You can use our service as often as you like again.'

    All is fine now.

Text from 5 digit number saying 'test' and with link to fms.media/-----

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 02:36 PM PST

Hopefully I am in the right subreddit, sorry if I'm not.

Just got a bunch of texts from a 5 digit number with links to some flash media server link. I typed one into a separate incognito browser to see what it was and it was a clip of a football game from where I graduated college last month. I got several more within about 10 minutes and didn't check the video clips and just blocked the number. Can anyone tell me what this is from, who are likely culprits, and if I just infected my browser/laptop?

Looking for this specialized search and analysis software

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 12:17 AM PST

I recently saw a piece of software used in a realty show called "Contact" on the Discovery channel. Supposedly this is real software otherwise I would not ask about it. It is some sort of analytical software that can connect the dots between dates, different pieces of information etc.

This software can search the web, public documents, news reports etc. for specific queries even using natural language and goes beyond say google or regular search engines. I imagine there is something out there similar to this either open source or pay for but I do not know what it specifically is called or the category it is in so I cannot find it.

This is a software I have always wanted for various research projects that I have worked on and have yet to do.

    Any help is appreciated

    TIA

    Weird buildup on Casio watch

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:31 PM PST

So I've had my G-Shock watch for five or take 5 years now. I've loved it and it was a great investment for my work and leisure. However, for about the last year or so, I noticed that a white, powderish substance has been accumulating on the black part of the watch, and isn't removed by water or soap. However, simply rubbing it with my finger makes it go away. Does anyone know what this is, and/or how to prevent it?

How is a quantum computer different from a ternary computer?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:23 AM PST

So a ternary computer is 0, 1 and 2, and a quantum computer is 0, 1, 0 or 1, right? So how do they differ really? Seems like they both get 3 values per bit. Or quantum computers can get 4 bits? But in that case how are they different from quad-bit computing?

Tagging faces on google photos in the U.K. (on iOS)

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 01:27 PM PST

I've been looking for a way to search photos by person in the google photos app on my iPhone, but all the answers I've found are a few months old and don't seem to be relevant any more. Am I being an idiot or is this feature no longer available? I've seen a few answers that say that the feature is location specific but they've also mentioned that the feature is now available in Europe (and has been for a good few months).

Please, please, please don't tell me that this is to do with the fact it's brexit day, or I'm gonna go on a rampage against all the old people in this dumb country.

IPad Pro vs Surface Pro - For Art

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:13 AM PST

    Hey everyone!

I'm trying to figure out my options when it comes to portable digital art. I'm REALLY liking the Ipad Pro, but friends are saying to also consider the Surface Pro series. I have the original Surface Pro and really dislike it for art. Too laggy (since it is pretty old). I would probably get the 64GB version of the latest Ipad Pro just because of the cost savings, and cloud storage. Although if anyone has suggestions please let me know!

Coronavirus: Technology Ideas to solve Coronavirus spread, panic and emergency

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 07:53 AM PST

WHO has declared a global health emergency !!!

Let's discuss if we can develop a solution for Coronavirus. The technology solution could be around anything including but not limited to:

    1. Cure
    2. Diagnose
    3. Reduce the spread
    4. Credible knowledge base

Anyone can respond with technical ideas. This is the time for science, not rumors.

Here is a technology idea example:

    Idea to diagnose

An idea is to build an IoT device that contains a

    1. Non-contact thermometer
    2. 3g/4g gsm module

the purpose of this device is to identify if the person passing by is suffering from fever etc. the data will go to a centralized database to allow monitoring of how many people could be suffering from high fever. It is not a 100% diagnose but it could help narrow down the people who may need immediate help.

Such a device could be used at borders with low resources etc.

Win a trip to the moon! One return trip a week, two lucky winners (HYPOTHETICAL)

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 05:55 AM PST

My hypothetical company possesses a hypothetical verified state-of-the-art vessel which will offer luxury return voyages to the moon (capabilities verified; verified demonstrations - technology, functions and propulsion technology and technique are all trade secrets, unpatented). I will be conducting a weekly global lottery where entrants only have to pay US$10.00 to enter and have to possess a verified passport of a recognised country (sorry, Sealanders) and be over 16. Only two winners per week. However, entrants can buy as many tickets as they wish for a chance to win.

How much funds do you think I'd generate per week from lottery ticket sales/how many people do you think would enter?
