Connect oled screen glasses to phone?? E.D.I.T.H GLASSES Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:34 AM PST Hi sorry in advance if this isnt the best place to ask this! And sorry if its long! Trying to explain as best as possible and provide enough info. Im not a tech guy. But during my gap year i needed something to keep me busy so i decided to try to make my own E.D.I.T.H smart glasses like the ones Tony gave Peter in Spiderman. I know smartglasses are a thing, but like i said im not a tech savvy DIY kind of guy. Ive done my research and seen many tutorials from other people attempting to make similar devices and thus i believe using an oled screen on one lense is the best way to go about this. However, everything ive researched explains that i need to connect it to a computer and do a whole bunch of coding to get shit to pop up on my lense. My question is: it possible to have my oled screen lense connect to my android phone somehow, preferably via bluetooth (i want it as wireless as possible) so i can talk to my personal assistant and have its data show up on the lense? My personal assistant was created using dialogflow.com, if thats relevant info, and dialogflow basically did all the coding and shit for me which is great. I just dont know how to connect that to my glasses. My overall goal for these E.D.I.T.H. glasses is to be able to connect to my phone (preferably wirelessly) and talk to my personal assistant (using a small mic on the glasses) and have whatever data i ask for from my phone pop up on one of my glasses lense, as well as hear my assistants voice speak to me if needed (via, preferably wireless, bone conduction headphones attached to the frame of the glasses behind my ear). Eventually, assuming i can do this shit on the glasses, i will do this same thing but in a Spiderman mask as well. I will be able to see the data from my phones personal assistant on one of the lenses of my Spiderman mask as well as have a small mic and small bone conduction headphones sewn into the inside of the mask. When did us (users) give up the ability to control our own operating system? (Specifically Windows) Posted: 01 Feb 2020 03:02 PM PST I've been having loads of issues with windows lately, and the more I've delved into the details, the more I've realized how much "freedom" and "choice" windows 10 has taken away from us. And before someone says "just use linux," unfortunately, my scientific analysis programs do not run on linux, or through wine. We used to have complete control of our computers. Back in the 90s and early 00s we had to tell the computer to do everything we wanted. Now the computer tells us what we can and cannot do. "You must comply." Just a few examples.
I was hesitant to upgrade to windows 10 for years. I stuck with windows 7 for at least 2 years after 10 was released. Then applications wouldn't work anymore. Games NEEDED windows 10, despite windows 10 just being built on top of windows 7 and nearly no other programs having the same restrictions. So I upgraded, and everybody was right. Windows 10 was pretty good, at the time. Now... after 2-3 terrible and unavoidable "feature updates" that have caused me nothing but trouble, I'm starting to reconsider that evaluation. Why are they making it worse to add... nothing... to the OS? I realize that 95% of tech users don't care, but seriously, how did we (techies) let this become the norm? Is there any way out of it? Let's not be coy and pretend we can subsist on linux alone. We all know that's not true in a world dominated by windows and mac. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:33 AM PST So I have a tablet which I don't really need so I wanna use it to control my hue lights. Is there a way to autostart the hue app every time the tablet is turned on? [link] [comments] |
Help with finding a tool to edit video? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:03 AM PST My girlfriend is a librarian at a local elementary school. She's teaching a unit on media literacy. She's found a video online that would be perfect for this, but there's some profanity in it. The video is hosted on Youtube. I'm aware there are tools for downloading videos from YouTube. What I'd like to know is - what's the easiest way to edit the video to "bleep" out any swear words from the audio (and blur out any swear words that appear on the screen)? I've never edited video before and not sure what the easiest possible option is. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Battery life on reducing screen refresh rate on laptop? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:06 AM PST So, I have a Asus TUF FX505DT Laptop with a Ryzen 5 3550h and GTX 1650 powered by a 3-cell 48Wh battery with a 120hz display led-backlit IPS-level panel. Although the battery life is decent when non-gaming and the 120hz display super-smooth, I was wondering if reducing the refresh rate to 48hz (Only other refresh rate supported in the settings) would help me gain substantial battery life gains? USB in which you can select which of the four drives to use Posted: 01 Feb 2020 09:16 PM PST on my chromebook, I made it so that I can boot from a USB. I was wanting to know how to buy or make a usb with 4 different inputs and a switch to select which one would be outputted through the usb 3.0. It would have 4 slots for inserting micro SD cards, linked to a switch that would control which of the inputs would be outputted through the USB 3.0 at at the end. Is there a product on Amazon that would do that? Or how would I be able to make this myself? If i were to make it, I have no experience with hardware projects, and would probably use an arduino. Please help me!! Image or my (bad) concept: https://imgur.com/a/vkj0rxz [link] [comments] |

Kidde Carbon Monoxide alarm has reached end of life and keeps beeping every 30 seconds Posted: 01 Feb 2020 06:14 PM PST Is there anyway I can disable the alarm to stop it from beeping? It's going to make it hard to sleep at night. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
At home wifi is absolute bs on only my devices Posted: 01 Feb 2020 09:23 AM PST I really don't know where else to ask this question and my Shaw support hotline will pretty much only tell me that I should upgrade to better wifi I have Shaw 50 in Canada, I live in a small town in alberta and our router is a Cisco dpc3848v Basically my wifi works perfectly, and decently fast on all other devices, my switch, ps4, boyfriends phone and laptop, but my devices, my iPhone and my iPad, both get pretty much nothing when it comes to speed. I open up a page on my iPhone and it sits there trying to think for a few minutes before saying "could not load page" or "lost connection, retry" I am not far away from my router, I live in a small townhouse and the furthest I could be away from it is about 30 feet but this problem persists even if I'm close to it. It's not obstructed in any way by glass or any material really. Sits on top of a shelf with full view. Sorry that this is such a stupid question to ask online since wifi troubles is pretty common for troubleshooting topics but any keywords I type into search don't help me find this specific problem. Thank you so much. [link] [comments] |
How do you set up a personal email with a domain you own? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 04:26 PM PST This is something I've been interested in for a while. I understand how to buy a domain name. Would I also need hosting for this? I've seen an option in Outlook to do so (Microsoft 365), does anybody know if am I only bound to Outlook if I do that or can I also access on the web somewhere other than web outlook (gmail or phone, for example). Anyway, looking for what to do after you have bought a domain name [link] [comments] |
Bright Battery powered light strips Posted: 01 Feb 2020 03:56 PM PST I don't know if this is the right subreddit but I'm looking for a solution for shelf lighting in a work van. Led strips that I can stick to multiple metal shelves powered by AA's or anything else would be ideal instead of wiring to the electrical system. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Feb 2020 03:12 PM PST Hi all, I have a hard disk that's only slightly older than this main machine. I'm out of 3.5" slots to pop in drive, but found an area on the chassis where I can close the case and it doesn't bump into any or bump a fun. I'm thinking about duct taping it there to avoid having to buy a 2.5" HDD and mounting brackets. I'm just worried that since this is my father's production machine that wouldn't be secure enough. Would good duct tape be enough to told everything together? Or is it worth it to fork out the money? Thanks!! [link] [comments] |
Is It Possible to Clean Up The Deep Web? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:35 PM PST So I had first heard of TOR years ago, and at the time there was some weird stuff on there but overall there seemed to be a direction to it all. I haven't been on there in a while, and today I installed TorBrowser and poked around... What. The. Fuck. Its gotten 1000x worse. A literal cesspool on the internet. I don't even want to click on anything, just judging by the link titles. So my question is this: Is it possible to filter illegal material at a network switch level? To have some sort of AI that scans images and filters out anything that shouldn't be there? If there isn't, then what is holding it back? Isn't there some sort of practical way to clean up the deep web...? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:11 PM PST I am not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I thought I'd give it a try. I would like to be able to open the same WApp account in multiple tabs in my browser, but it doesn't seem to be possible due to the fact that WApp only let's you have it open in one tab and asks you to switch tabs. Is there a way this could be done? Does anyone happen to know a workaround to this issue? [link] [comments] |
Upload speed issue. Please help! Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:02 PM PST I have recently discovered that when uploading files, my upload speed is incredibly slow. I pay my ISP for unthrottled and unshaped 100/100. When running speed tests I get these results, as well as when downloading files I'll get my full line speed. Why is my upload only slowing down when uploading to a server? [link] [comments] |

Strange services in Windows 10 home after fresh new installation Posted: 01 Feb 2020 08:37 AM PST A friend of mine was having problems with his (mini) pc, perhaps there was some malware on it. And asked me to do a full wipe and reinstall windows 10 back on it. I used this methode to secure erase the msata sdd in his mini pc: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Solid_state_drive/Memory_cell_clearing Then i did fresh install of Windows 10 Home edition. After installation i wanted to disable some of the windows services that he doesn't need his kind of usage. There i saw randomly some services that end all with: _3e40d9 This looks not normal to me, never saw it before and have no idea what this could be? If i open msconfig.cfg and go to tab services, these services are all listed to the bottom of the list. I made 2 pictures of this, and hope that anyone can tell me what this could be and if this could problemmatic, like some kind of malware or something maybe? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 07:51 AM PST I'm using chrome to watch youtube. The video is not displaying normally, there are huge bars on left and right side of the website layout. Previously I used to watch youtube in classic layout through an extension, which did not have this problem. I want the video to take the lost space on the screen. I tried zooming and 125% works fine for me, but with 125% zoom, the text is larger than what I am used to see and I'm having a tough time orienting myself to that. [link] [comments] |
