Is a non grounded laptop charger safe to use? Posted: 22 Dec 2019 01:02 AM PST I know nothing about chargers. Would I be able to still use my laptop while it's plugged in [link] [comments] |
Paranoia check: is buying a refurb ChromeBit from Amazon a possible network exploit? Posted: 21 Dec 2019 09:50 AM PST Chromebit: a Chromebook without a screen or keyboard that goes on the back of the TV. Like a beefy fully functional Chromecast. It's a micro computer. I want to buy one. But all these 3rd party refurb devices scare me... is it safe if I hook them up to my network or use them for online logins. Am I being paranoid? Or is my skepticism justified? Could someone hack and mod the chrome OS system or add some tiny hardware to skim data. Or if the answer "there's no more a chance for your refurb microcomputer on your TV to exploit your network than anything else." Thanks! I'm just tech-inclined to overthink stuff. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. [link] [comments] |

Google Voice transcribed music into threatening message - And I'm freaking out! Posted: 21 Dec 2019 08:53 PM PST My home phone is on Google Voice and yesterday I received an email with the text: "Dead dead dead dead dead. Thursday home Thursday dead dead dead dead dead. off off". When I listened to the message it was 3 minutes (exactly) of music only. No words!
I haven't been able to find anything with the searches I have tried. I joined reddit to get help on this and appreciate any useful input that anyone can provide. (And please forgive if this ask is in the wrong place and please point me in the right direction.) Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Dec 2019 03:54 PM PST Hi, I'm in Australia and I'm a bit confounded by all the different things on the market. My router is Not compatible to install a vpn on, I'm looking for a device that I can plug into my tv that I can use to stream Netflix and Amazon TV, that I can also download, install and run NordVPN app on. Roku tells me I'd have to run the vpn off my router, which I can't do. Does anyone have some options/suggestions that could assist me please? Ideally I'd like to spend under $1000. I do not require 4k, only 1920x1440 streaming necessary. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Dec 2019 04:51 PM PST I purchased a Mac for my sister around 6 months ago. It was a MacBook Air 2015 13" edition. But, a few weeks ago the computer stopped working entirely. My sister told me that "It wouldn't turn on even if the battery was plugged in." Upon looking at it, I couldn't find any physical problems. I even took off the bottom panel and changed out the battery with no luck. I assume it's a logic board problem, but I don't know. What would be the best way to determine/diagnose the problem even though I can't get the Mac to turn on? I'd like to fix her computer and resell it so she can get another. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Dec 2019 04:10 PM PST All of my searches lead to apps that let me make animated gifs with my phone. But I want to find and copy them so I can paste them into group chats, not make them myself. Any ideas? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Dec 2019 07:52 AM PST I made a PC like 3/4 years ago and i never had problems so far. I start working at Best Buy so we have some discounts. I decided to buy a all-in-one Watercooler H0100i Platinum. I Installed it and everything look fine, the temperature was stable and everything. BUT now when i play league i have some fps drops not much put enough to be annoying and can be unplayable in some occasions. I played a couple of games with a temps thingy to watch my CPU but the max temperature was like 40. I tried to close all the running programs to minimize the load but it still happens. Even if my processor it's a 7th gen i NEVER had a FPS problem until recently. Here is the details of my PC : ------------------ --------------- So my question is : What can be the source of the problems P.S : i did all my updates and everything. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 21 Dec 2019 12:23 PM PST I recently purchased a language translation product. It works great. It does require that a microphone device be plugged into the phone. Unfortunately, the male end of the type C plug is not long enough to make a connection with my cell phone in a case. I think it's a great product, but I'd rather not leave my phone unprotected to use the product. Is there such a thing as an "extender"? Some kind of short cord that is Type C male on one end and Type C female on the other end? Thanks in advance for your help. [link] [comments] |
Why would you get a digital pad against a writing tablet? Posted: 21 Dec 2019 11:40 AM PST digital pad example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPZniy8QK-M, writing tablet [example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ghyILUIA7s the digital pad seems to capture the writing form you execute on the paper. Now why would you have that when you can have a writing tablet that does almost the same thing with more function and paper-free usage? [link] [comments] |
Is anyone familiar with Clickagy? Posted: 21 Dec 2019 07:18 AM PST I've become aware, through certain partners and vendors of my employer, of a company named Clickagy that sells online consumer behavior data. While their site seems to show audiences associated with particular search categories, I've been told that their tracking is not limited to search behavior but also sites visited. Additionally, this data is sold with some type of identifiers(s) that can be matched to individual people. Is anyone familiar with this business and how they are able to collect this information? All of my contacts changed into weird German phone numbers Posted: 21 Dec 2019 09:13 AM PST For the past few days all of my incoming calls from my contacts are from random German phone numbers. So when I get a call I only see a +49 number (which is definitely not the number of any of my contact because nobody's German) instead of their names. And when I call anyone it looks like I'm also calling from a German number. I'm not in Germany, I haven't been there in quite some time, my SIM card is English (my provider is O2). I'm very confused about what happened. Anyone experienced anything similar? Or has an idea what might be happening? What should I do? Thanks a lot! [link] [comments] |
