Why can't I play old video games on a modern computer? Posted: 11 Sep 2020 09:33 PM PDT I had some nostalgia hit me a few days ago and I wanted to play Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (not siege). This game came out in 1998 and the minimum requirements are : Windows: XP / Vista / 7, 1 GHz Processor (1.4 GHz recommended), 256MB RAM (512 recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended), Mouse, Keyboard. I'm running Windows 10, have a 3.7 ghz processor, 6 gb of ram, an AMD A4-5300 which can handle 3d and is compatible with DirectX 11 which is installed. I keep getting internal errors when trying to run it. I did buy it from Ubisoft via UPlay and I've messaged them about it This may sound stupid but can I not run older games on newer hardware? Edit: Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna try to use compatibility mode first and then buy it off of GOG if that doesn't do the trick. Thanks for the help y'all. [link] [comments] |

Parrot 3200ls bluetooth - what does P mean!? Posted: 12 Sep 2020 02:17 AM PDT Hi all, I've recently purchased a used car and in it there is a Parrot bluetooth (from 10 years ago I'm guessing!). Anyway, I'm trying to pair it with my phone and instead of a pin when I press pair all I see is the letter P. According to a polish forum this means that the unit is blocked and needs to be sent back to manufacturer for unblocking. Currently it's useless, and unless I can fix it I'll need to get something else. Any advice appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

My phone in build camera app doesn't support QR scan but every oyher app which can scan QR it fine. But this particular office app is not scanning any QR at all. New trackpad makes computer difficult to use because of disability Posted: 11 Sep 2020 10:55 AM PDT So, I have a hand tremor, and I've always typed with the bottoms of my palms resting on my old laptop for support. I recently got a new laptop, and I cannot rest my hands on the computer because the trackpad is so large. Now I can't use my new laptop properly because of this. I've tried turning my trackpad sensitivity down as low as it can go, and taping thin cardboard "guards/covers" on each side of the trackpad leaving the center for use (no luck, the trackpad still could detect my hands). I'm lost, and there seems to be no product for this purpose. What can I use for a material that will stop my trackpad from detecting my palms? Thanks Edit: I have an HP pc with Windows Edit 2: Tried electrical tape, didn't work [link] [comments] |

What crazy tech misconceptions you had as kids? Posted: 11 Sep 2020 11:14 PM PDT Here's mine: When my grandma got a Windows 8 All-in-one, I thought that term meant that the PC could also be a tablet! The screen was way too big to be one, but I kinda thought that it could be one anyways. [link] [comments] |
Curious on RAID configs for NAS Posted: 11 Sep 2020 10:33 PM PDT I'll be putting together a NAS soon, and an 8TB x 2 mirror setup is looking good. However, I'm pondering the idea of if it's possible to get a four bay housing, have (for example) 4TB x 3, raid them as a single drive, then mirror that onto the fourth 12TB HDD. I'm unlikely to go with this scenario, but it got the gears turning and wanted to see if it was possible or even plausible after seeing a five bay housing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Sep 2020 02:47 PM PDT I want to create a Halloween costume with voice distortion of some kind. I don't know anything about how this stuff works, but I'm assuming there's some kind of device where I can speak into a mic, and it will instantly change the audio and play it through a speaker. I looked online, but the only things I could find were digital voice changers (talking into a mic and changing it over a call, etc). How can I find (or create) a device/system like this? Random Keyboard keys not working Posted: 11 Sep 2020 03:23 PM PDT All at once, 4 different keys have stopped working ( G H ' / ) on my Lenovo B5400. I've updated drivers, and diagnosed with the lenovo 'keyboard test' driver. The on screen keyboard works. I've even reinstalled Windows 10. Any ideas?! [link] [comments] |
Phone internet goes out when streaming Netflix on xbox Posted: 11 Sep 2020 07:08 PM PDT I have a galaxy s5. I can't say who my isp is because it's only in my town and I don't want to dox myself. When streaming netflix on my xbox, the internet on my phone quits working. I can watch youtube on my tv but as soon as I play netflix reddit doesn't load and I can't use my phone browser either. A message pops up on my browser saying DNS not found. I turn off netflix and it goes away. Also I can stream netflix on another phone and it does not affect my phone. [link] [comments] |

Listening/recording device with remote control and permanent position Posted: 11 Sep 2020 01:27 PM PDT I'm searching for a listening device that can be put on place, someone on my family is suffering abuse and we need to prove, so we want to record it, it's gonna be a while so I would like something I can plug in an then access from my computer, or maybe something that resets so I only need to extract the data when there is something important. I'm a bit lost and I need recommendation and references about this kind of tech, if you could tell me what I need or a place I can look this up, or even some better keywords to search, I would appreciate it a lot, thanks. Posted: 11 Sep 2020 09:25 AM PDT Hello Imagine with me that we build a structure which can hold four monitors in a four square formation with a small gap between each so that it looks like a wide four pane window. Now, we build a frame over and around these monitors to resemble a window while allowing heat to vent through areas that cannot be seen and leaving the back open We now have a fake window, however the issue becomes placing something on the screens without burn in. In my situation I am imagining still imagery which I illustrate being on the window, so not video. Now, to prevent burn in, I want the image to change every now and then, and all four images must change at once, and it must display the right image on each monitor. In my head, this seems simple. I would have a folder of sub folders and each has four images titled A through D and the program knows which monitor goes with which letter, and changes the folder being displayed once every several minutes. This is simple with one image on one monitor, but, does anyone have a suggestion on how to fairly easily manage this with four monitors without involving a large machine? I just want four still images at 1080 so I presume a small device can probably handle that. [link] [comments] |
Affordable Smart/Android radio alarm clock thingy? Posted: 11 Sep 2020 12:37 PM PDT For the last few years, I've been using an old smart phone to play music or audiobooks while I'm asleep, on my bedside table. well, unfortunately, the battery has gone bad, twice (two different batteries, I wasn't stupid enough to reuse a bad one). From what I can tell, it's because I leave it plugged in and running, so I want to try to avoid that. Is there a device that plays Audible, Amazon Music, Google Play Books (for audiobooks on that platform) and possibly YouTube that can just sit on that table, plugged into the wall, without the risk of a battery blowing up on me? Or at least something close? I will say, I don't want a bluetooth speaker. That still requires a device to be plugged in and running, it just doesn't need to be as close to me. I'm also stuck on a fixed income, so the more affordable, the better, unfortunately. Thanks in advance for any help. [link] [comments] |
What would it need to build a little holographic figure? Posted: 11 Sep 2020 11:50 AM PDT Some days ago I had an intersting discussion with some friends in a bar (yes like always alcohol is a great catalysator to create strange ideas). The question that arose was whether it is possible to build a small device that can display a small holographic figure depending on the data chip that is inserted. Since none of us is really technically adept, we wondered how something like this could be technically implemented, what it would cost to produce such a device and if this would even be possible with today's technology. We thought of something like Cortana from Halo (without movement) but in a container, because a hologram in normal air was unlikely and probably some kind of mist would have to be trapped in the container to stop the light of the hologram. How would you approach this idea? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Sep 2020 11:40 AM PDT I only have 1 hdmi port on my laptop and I'd like to have both my graphic tablet AND a second screen plugged to it, and I can't find anything to do so on the internet, my graphic tablet also needs to be plugged by usb. And I'd like to use the second screen as a second monitor. (Basically two screens but screen one on my graphic tablet) I'm really stupid when it comes to tech stuff and I wanna know if it's even possible to do such a thing. Thanks for taking your time if you ever reply to this <3 [link] [comments] |

[I need a laptop] Where can I ask for recommendations? Posted: 11 Sep 2020 09:05 AM PDT I saw this subreddit r/SuggestALaptop , problem with it is that it doesn't work, and I can't make my post on it, for some reason I appear to be banned, because after every post I get a note that it's been removed by automoderators, the only thing I did was use the form the provided, so that doesn't work. I would like to list my requirements here, and you could suggest me another subreddit if you know of any: I would like to order a laptop from Amazon (or any other sufficient online store) at a price of 200 to 300 dollars. I would like the best at that price, I don't need it for any intense gaming or editing, just browsing the web and watching movies, so what would you suggest? Thanks in advance. ^^ [link] [comments] |

HELP with MSI Optix G27C4 gaming monitor Posted: 11 Sep 2020 08:01 AM PDT I just bought this as my first gaming monitor. The monitor runs up to 165Hz with a 2x HDMI (1.4) & a Display port (1.2). I'm currently using this with my Xbox one. When I press the menu button is says it's at 60HZ. Any idea how I can change this to 120/144hz? I've read that certain HDMI (2.0) can support higher but not sure how I'd go about this as online it says the monitors HDMI is 1.4. Also would it be anything to do with the DP as I've read the Xbox one can support 120hz? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Do I need to pay extra for a new 4K player with Dolby Vision? Posted: 11 Sep 2020 07:25 AM PDT I just bought a Sony A8H OLED TV and I now need to upgrade my bluray player to a 4k version. However I'm pretty mentally exhausted after researching TVs and I'm losing the will to live now that players are complicated too! I was going to get a Sony player and the prices range from £200 to £350. I can see some have Dolby Vision support and some don't etc. My TV mentions Dolby Vision anyway, does the player need it too I guess? Could anyone tell me if I need the most expensive player, or if for a general viewer the cheapest 4k player is basically all I need to enjoy my new TV? Do I need Dolby Vision? How do I know what disks use what? Much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
How to choose a wireless power bank at the end of 2020? Posted: 11 Sep 2020 06:40 AM PDT Phones have many new features at the end of 2020. All those features drain your phone battery.
