Posted: 15 Sep 2020 03:12 AM PDT When you lose internet access (while still connected to your LAN) , windows, android, and iOS (and maybe macOS) all give some indication that your network lacks internet access (e.g. "Connected, No Internet" on android iirc). So they must be periodically checking to see if your device has internet access. I'm guessing they do it by pinging some IP address or another. But how can I know for certain what exactly they are doing and which address (or domain) they are pinging if that is what they're doing? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 Sep 2020 10:02 PM PDT I dropped my redmi note 8 in the pool today (it sank to the bottom before I caught it, mf just went for a dive), so I turned if off, put it into some rice, and now, 10h later it is blinking the low battery icon and vibrating whenever it blinks (still turned off) Is this a "I'm out of battery please charge me" reaction or is the block/turn on button pressed constantly due to hardware damage and it's trying to be turned on? And should I take it to tech assistence to get a isopropylic alcohol bath? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

And I can't upgrade it with a SSD. I will only be using for writing, sometimes internet (with Chrome) and skype. What Operating system would you recommend? Please advice. Thank you. I want to also have my work laptop hooked up to those two monitors at the same time. I want to be able to switch between them without having to unplug and replug everything in (either changing inputs or maybe a switch) I currently have this: I have a Dell sd2716dg and p2719h. The sd2716dg has 4K so I connect it to my desktop using a dp to dp cable. The p2719h I also connect to my desktop using dp to dp just because. My desktop has a GTX 1080 My laptop has 1 usb c and 1 hdmi port Currently I connect one monitor to the laptop using the laptop's hdmi, and another monitor into the multi port adapter's hdmi port and then into my laptop through the usb C port of the laptop. I tried to connect the sd2716dg to the multi port adapter using an hdmi to usb-c adapter, and then plugging it into the usb c port of the multi port. Then I tried to connect the second monitor to the multi port adapter with the free hdmi slot. So then I connect the multi port to my laptop using the usb-c port (with both monitors hooked to the multi port). However, only the sd2716 would not appear. I would only have the laptop and the p2719h extending each other with no signal from the sd2716dg. If anyone could give me advice on how to fix this, or connect all these as cheap as possible I would really appreciate it!! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 Sep 2020 10:48 AM PDT I have several IP cameras by an outfit called "Zmodo" operating around our house/small farm, but they're very proprietary, and they really want you to give their (presumably Chinese) server access to all your video, and don't want you to use any app but theirs to access the cameras. The easiest way to solve this is to replace them with some kind of more open camera that will work with any of the various open-source monitoring softwares for PC and/or Android. Any suggestions on that? I'm not against building them out of a camera module, ESP32 chip, and waterproof enclosure or similar, but I expect that wouldn't end up being the best or even necessarily the least expensive route. Alternatively, if anyone has experience using this brand of camera with real, grown-up monitoring software and cares to give me any tips, that'd be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

It's a good mouse but unreliable, breaks easily. So a durable mouse would be nice, that is also light and moves quickly for gaming if needed. | Why can’t I discover my External Hard Disk on my MacBook Pro Posted: 14 Sep 2020 04:47 AM PDT I own a Sony HD-B1 external hard drive and I am unable to discover it on my MacBook or even on my Windows 10 laptop. I have been struggling to access it as I want to back up my MacBook on it and reset the Mac as it is giving me issue. I have tried calling the SONY helpline number but it's not going through.
